Don't search 505 what ever you do.....

I saw that is well but wasn't sure if it's genuine due to the rotten front wings.

Same as this

18000 mile

1988 2CV6 that has some pretty shoddy paintwork.

And another thing that boils my piss is the yanks can drive around in stuff like this without a care in the world while we get bum raped left, right & centre for owning even an economical petrol car...

Well quit whining about it and get off yer arse and make some noise  People get the Governments they deserve that old saying goes....Don't blame me - I'm an Anarcho-Capitalist and have never voted in my life

Stick them all on a boat to Africa. For years that's been happening in Germany etc, huge compounds near the docks to ship stuff out there.

So it's o.k for the africans to pollute the atmosphere and trundle about in old cars but not the germans.....do the German government not realise it's the same atmosphere?
Only slightly misguided..............Africa and countries/continents like it needs cars. We can either make new ones that they can't afford, or sell them for peanuts the stuff we don't want. It's called 'recycling'.

+1Why not ship em all to Nigeria, they'd love it! Such a bloody waste for them to be cubed when there are people in need out there in Africa who can't afford a good car. Mark.

Posted

I often see cars getting shipped out of Britain onto container ships heading to Africa.Only in the last week I've seen a old Merc C-Class, a Ford Transit, a Peugeot 406 and a Vauxhall Senator getting wire lifted onto a ship for export.

Posted

Yeah the Africans and the Indians get a lot of our good transits, with Russia being a close third.... Was it a Mk2 or later?

Posted

I see no problem with cars going to africa etc rather than the skip. There should be a check done on cars that come in for scrappage to see if they are genuinely good examples and if they are they should be allowed to be sold /exported.I'm tempted to write a complaint letter about it attaching some of these pics!

Sorry, I'm not misguided. I don't think it's wrong that the africans have them - or that we or the germans ship them there. I'm saying that the whole 'scrappage' thing or 'old cars are bad' is forced down our throats as 'to save the environment' when clearly it is not!

Well its to pay lip service to "cleaning up our local environment" isnt it. Except it isnt really as the UK scheme isnt linked to emissions. The German claim is dubious as a high proportion of the replacement cars will be churned out of their polluting motor factories...

Posted

That's exactly it. It's not good for the environment to produce a car, run it for a few years, then scrap it and make a new one to replace it. It's far better to keep a car going for twenty years, and only replace it when it really is no good for the road any more.

This whole situation is just ridiculous. With the Wastage Scheme potentially having another 9 months to run, surely there's something we can do collectively to force a rethink? What about a few well-written, compelling letters to Mandelson suggesting he takes a look at the waste his scheme is producing. I doubt he really thought about that side of the coin before implementing the scheme - he doesn't strike me as someone who really 'understands' the motor industry in the wider sense.I think we should push for:1) A clause allowing or making it easier/possible for the dealer to sell on exceptional/viable/well-maintained trade-ins so they can be returned to the road2) A 20-year upper age limit on anything traded in as 'Scrappage'. That would prevent further Riley RM/Singer Vogue type losses...once they're gone, they're gone and all that!Anyone agree with me?

Just looking at this Daihatsu on U-Pull, What is the blue car in the back ground?, Can't see no listing for it on the site, Guessing it's some old J-Tin.

Dear christ its an old Toyota Cressida, of which there must be single-figure numbers left. I cant take much more of this!

Posted

I think it's an early 80's Cressida, which is listed but with pics of a 90s Corolla

Your right Pog, It's listed as a 1982 Cressida with 85k, but with the wrong pictures!

You can see it here in the photo of the wrong car that's listed as the Cressida.

Right, I just don't want to know about this anymore. I'm going to go outside and look at the Charmant for ages and ponder how it isn't getting scrapped.

this is such a ridiculous government 'incentive' that it just beggars belief. As per, its just a temporary solution to an ever growing problem. Instead of aiming at ways to cut down on production pollution, they have decided to target, as usual, car drivers. I can guarantee that once its over, there will still be people advertising cars based on it, or people going into dealers expecting it, as what happened with the tax exemption. It goes completely against recycling ethics, any good from this is immediately wiped out when the new car is made. And as i have mentioned before, depriciation wipes out the 2000 pounds within 88 days. No one wins, at all, and i pity the people who trade in the interesting cars, as they are now trundling about in soul-less Korean boxes, which which will be worth nothing. But at least we know that every car advertised anywhere from now wont fall victim to it. And its good to know, that the cars in your hands are safe. I cannot wait to get my first car, which is hopefully going to be something shite.rant over.Sorry it must be odd for an 18 year old to fight for the older cars!

Well I'll probably be selling off my 1999 Proton Persona at the end of the Summer/Autumn time - wonder if I can hold it to ransom using the scrappage scheme and get 1500 quid for it?

Personally I am for contacting directly any seller who mentions scrappage, in fact I am already doing it. The government won't listen, and even if they did the scheme will be over and done with by the time they can act.

Actually, theres some interesting stuff on UPI. I was very seriously considering stumping up the required £300 for a '99 Seat Toledo V5 with leather. Would have been a handy shed loads of parts to be had but it looks like someone beat me to it.Bear in mind that not all U Pull Its stock is from the Scrappage Scheme though. Its also sourced from Police / recovery operators and cars seized that the owner hasn't reclaimed.

Only thing to do is to ignore it, there's not a lot we can do to combat the unrelentless greed and desire for status of the general working class public, and this hateful government's bollocks ideas to help the people that fucked the country up in the first place. Fuck this country.

Why break them though? It's not illegal to sell stuff without papers or T&T.

Not sure really. Think thats just the way it is.On a similar theme, Customs & Excise used to have a massive compound just outside Dover full of vehicles they had seized. I got talking to the guy in charge who was telling me that if the owners didn't claim them the cars were sent straight for crushing, no resale, no breaking, just being cubed. Even he said it didn't make much economic sense but that was just the way it was.

Well it smacks of spite if you ask me! What a waste.

Some police forces are better than others in the respect of who they award the contract to dispose of the unclaimed cars, as there's a few sellers on eBay that evidently have the contract to dispose of seized motors. One lot in Bournemouth seem to bosh a 12 month MOT on each one and start it at £199 no reserve, regardless of what it is; not sure if their tester is Ray Charles looking at some of the cars they sell, but it's got to be better than scrapping everything that gets impounded and not collected.
