It is a very cool car, clean and tidy inside an practical too.

Even better now with a carb that works properly and some paint on the squiffy bits.

I would, but for the following I'm not:

I'm trying to remove stuff from my world.

I have had the pleasure of this little beastie before.

Insurance wankers will no longer regard it as a classic under their fluctuating and seemingly arbitrary system* of classification.

GLWTR folks :)

Did they say why Ken? It’s a load of bollocks I know, but just wondering if they had even tried to come up with some crap.

Er... I got a classic quote on this from FJ the other week, no problems, quite cheap, and I live in London and don't have off-street parking. I think they have changed things again. Also managed to get a quote on a 1998 Saab 93 so I think generally the rule is now anything over 20 years old qualifies as long as you have access to a "modern" car too.

I nearly went and bought this Astra the first time round, but after it was withdrawn from sale I went and bought something else instead... I like it, but I also like what I bought instead.

But definitely yes to the "arbitrary system* of classification", just got a quote on a 50cc chinese moped and it was over £700. For third party only. And that's on a full bike license... Shame, would have been fun...

PBIS just said that it was unlikely that they would be able to do it 'classic' due to underwriters. Go figure.

Peter James and RH Specialist wouldn't touch it. Footman James insured it for 134 quid. They even offered my guaranteed valuation for another tenner.

That's the joys of owning a car that can be stolen with a cotton bud. RH insured mine and paid out when it was stolen without any issues but probably have now decided they aren't worth the risk now.

It's 'sold pending collection' to someone on Facebook for 550 quid, so we will see on Friday...

I would enter, but I've already won it once...

It seems the industry changed dramatically for 2018 !

(For me) Peter Best and James now have insistence of garaging, separation of vehicles (withdrawal of multi-car policies), mandatory owner's club membership when car under 30 years old, also cover for taking car to work on a sunny day is now removed and chargeable (30% on premium).

Richardsen Hosken RH were fantastic for 15 years with me, until Hiscox took them over and ruined it overnight with a double-jump in excesses and refusal on cars they had no problem with before.

Footman James are all over the place.  It seems that if you ring on a weekday, computer says no, but on a Saturday, computer says yes.  Which can only be because the 'underwriter' in the office works weekdays.

Either way, the good days seem to be over.

I renewed my multi-car policy with Peter James at the end of March (4 cars, all over 30 years old).  Has the change happened since then?

Must be, for new custom anyhow

It really does appear to be as random as a random thing. Pain in the arse really.

Now sold. I pretty much just made back my costs, in case anyone thinks I'm now emigrating to Zante on the profit. :)
