Excellent update - I'll have the Airflow plz!

That Saxon is an Epic Spot. I always thought it'd be a great wheeze to create a replica ever since seeing one in a book when I was a kid. It was one of those styling exercises that was slightly different on one side to the other. The nearside should have a 'three-quarter' window behind the door.

^ That's a good one! :D

Hey Trig, you've been very close to my neck of the woods with this last lot! Wharfedale is just over the hill from us here, and I keep meaning to stop in Kettlewell and take these two pictures:

5945995274_4472602bbd.jpg

5945995202_b37577397e.jpg

I'd like to park my shite on the forecourt too, but Wilkinsons' is usually open when we're passing through.

This area seems to be popular with Dutch and Belgian holiday makers in late spring/early summer every year, and you've papped a few. That ONE LIFE effort is on Belgian plates.

Old Jags don't normally do it for me, but that red Mk2 on Minilites is rather special.

Posted

I heard the Jag speed off over the bridge at Ingleton, It sounded lovely and had a Goodwood stickers in the rear window, I saw loads more stuff that i couldn't pap, like a pair of Messerschmitt KR200's also on Dutch plates racing along in Kilnsey, a Capri 2.8i, Vauxhall Viva and another Bedford CF Pick Up.

GR8 spots as ever, Trig. The unidetified droptop Daimler may well be a "Docker Daimler". Sir Bernard Docker was Daimler's banker and Chairman, who married a bird called Nora Collins, a woman of "questionable virtue" who had a track record of marrying rich blokes. He made the mistake of letting her have a say in the design of some cars, including one which had gold stars all over it. Think early Range Rover Evoque. Still no idea what the covertible is, though.

Posted

According someone on pistonheads the Daimler is "1948 - 1952 DAIMLER DB18 BARKER SPECIAL

A 3 seater Drop Head Coupe body built by Barker on a DB18 chassis. 2.5 Litre 6 cylinder engine 85 BHP, 0 to 50 mph in 16 seconds, top speed 85 mph.

Price on launch £ 2,560-7s-10d Approximately 500 were built".

That Volvo 440 is beautifully rough, proper shite!

Some cars look better the more beat up they are:

I believe this to be one of the 'designs' by Lady Docker. She and her husband were ostentatiously wealthy in dreary post war Britain and was once quoted as saying "We bring glamour and happiness into drab lives. The working class love everything I do."

I bet she liked a bit of bukkake aswell.

Heh,heh! That picture of the bus load of OAP's is quality!

It's a late running service from 1959, when they boarded they were just teenagers. The bus of lost souls.

I hope that Humber gets restorated, not plate raped 'n abandoned.

Super-duper spottificationism again, Trig. You're like a shite-magnet.

I've just cross posting these into this thread from another before i lose them.

A few of you might remember some of these cars from before, A few days ago i put an advert on Freecycle asking for anyone with old car magazines cluttering up there lofts if they would like to donated them to me.

I got an email from Bob this morning saying he had a 1ft pile i could have if i pop round, It turned out It was the same guy i meet a year before.

6015479943_beb1d75f36_b.jpg

1983 Austin Metro 1.3L by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This was the view i saw as i pulled up to his house, Bob is your old school kind of guy, he likes to make do with cast offs and repair things, He's the type with a grey bread, a pair of glasses, high waisted jeans and a Ipswich Council issued shirted covered in oil.

This Metro he told me was a ebay purchase 5 years ago, It cost him £77 and he had to travel to Brimingham to collect it, It had been of the road for 15 years and needed a bit of work but he got it road legal and his young daughter used it for Bristol college for 4 years. I'd Imagine it would be Pog's dream lady.

(No comments on the badly parked Kadett, I haven't got round to changing the plates yet before any smart arsed comments from Len as well  )

This looks better in the photos then it does in the flesh, The scuttles rotten, the interiors worn and it's covered 101000 miles, But it's pure awesomeness.

But this is not all, These are his other cars.

6015484421_9b1ed1e750_b.jpg

1962 Morris Traveller by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This Traveller he's had since the early 70's, He paid £30 for it at the time and it's done him well, All his cars are taxed and mot'ed, He was a bit annoyed by the quality of varnish these day's, he said it lets the car down.

1955 Morris Minor 1000 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

This is his best car, He's owned it many, many years but is a bet embarrassed now by it due to the rusty bumpers.

1955 Austin A30 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

The last time i saw this he was fitting an engine to it after it had been sat in the garden for near on 20 years, It's now up and running with a mot.

And this old girl is his current daily driver!, he's owned it since 1963, he rebuilt it all himself, The suspension had collapsed so he adapted a Minor rear suspension to fit it, He is now struggling to driving it though due to the low seated position sadly.

Gave me a real hard-on for steel wheels without centre-caps. See the Corolla above.

Top trigonometry.

So last night i was down the pub and a friend was telling me about this Fiat Strada he'd seen a few days before, This wasn't something i could ignore so this morning i set of, camera in hand, to source this pot of AS gold.

And what a pot of gold it is too!, It's just parked on the edge of a side road, tax in the window and obviously a being used as a daily driver, I'm not sure what the Ritmo graphics are all about but this has to be the only non- TC model Strada still on the road being used daily.

Oh, Trig. Thou hast excelled himself. Damn near brought a tear to my eye.

Surprised more kit cars don't use Strada rear lights, I always liked them, think they're excellent.

Posted

Funkin wars trighouse, that is a serious pile of shite. I wonder who owns it? You've got to be made of stern stuff to use that as a daily, whoever this person is I admire them greatly.

I wonder how much welding its had in its life, you'd think it'd be on its 10th pair of sills to have made it this far. What a survivor!

Rare, rare beast. Cant remember the last time I saw a rhd roadworthy one.

Excellent spottage, Sir

Great stuff!

I remember a green one just like this in Ipswich, but that was getting on for 25-30 years ago when they were just another hatchback, albeit a distinctive one.

Has RegieRitmo still got his one stashed away?

That is 'SPOT OF THE YEAR' for me, so far. Well done Mr T.

Wait 'till Brammy updates his spotting thread :D

Posted

Oh dear, now Barretts gone and said it...

But no, in all seriousness, this is a fantastic spot Trigger, I couldn't believe it when I first saw photos of it, and I still can't, can anyone even remember seeing a non sporting facelifted model recently either?! Even for Fiats, they survive terribly, in everyday state.

Posted

Thanks guys, It must be my best spot to date though Barrett is right, I think Brammy's next update will be of great interest to you Boobydoo!

Someone over on flickr has also recently see this Strada in Waltham Abbey!

Christ on a bike top top spottage. I live in a shite black hole. I can only dream of such awesomeness where I live.
