I am down your way next month M.O. helping my mate drive his Wallis traction to the New Forest show.

Posted

these are my favourites purchases of this month!

Always had a thing  for the smell and sounds of live steam!

Driven a Sentinel lorry once - bloody quick, they are!

Scruff, how close do you get to Gloucestershire with it?

Was looking at two fantastic Hickey of Richmond steamer postcards yesterday. One  (their Burrell City of London) with a huge propeller in tow and the other of a transformer with two in front and one behind - again Hickey's.

Traction engines are one of those wonderfully tactile looking things that make me want to clamber aboard and fiddle with all the things.  I never do, of course, I'm too scared of parking it in a house or something and have the greatest respect for the people that keep these charming and cumbrous beasts chugging along.

All you have to do is walk up to them and start asking questions. On three of the three occasions I did that, I was invited onto the thing and soon after allowed to play around with the controls.

On a Foden steam lorry I was put to work shovelling coal.

Ah - I incorrectly assumed you were New Forest, not Forest of Dean!?!

Those are some cracking photos I love the ones of the Williams'. A Fowler D2, a McLaren and what looks like another Mac behind. Superb

Vulgs or anyone else if you find yourself in Rutland I can very easily be persuaded to throw a fire in and have a run to a pub. We are off to a rally at Rutland Water this weekend and a transport festival at South Luffenham the weekend after.

HI Scruff

I am in the posh 'Royal' Forest, not that more recent New one!

I have plenty more traction engine postcards - from fairground ones to working ones.

The Williams postcards are simply the best traction engine cards I have seen for a long while!

Last two for the day, both of these are at Chipping Sodbury, Bristol.

I also like traction engines and am the proud owner of an extensive collection of Old Glory mags... ;)

I am unfeasibly excited at the prospect of traction engine bothering now! Rutland is only about 70 miles away. omgomgomg

Had my "appraisal" there was very little postive in it as I struggled but despite that my boss alluded to me making an appearence back here in September so at least I can come back here to France.

Rover 827 Coupe has been paid for and is currently being put in my name. It'll be collected and stored hopefully sometime this week. So I've got that to look forward to. But first, I've got some other countries to visit.....

He bought my Renault fregate as well . He has a lovely place where he keeps his cars and a full time mechanic to look after them. It would be nice if the collection does stay together

When he bought it, he offered to pay a bit extra if I could delivery it and also added that we'd be able to have a look at his cars while we were at it. As I was too busy to get down there we passed and he sent his drivers for it.

Wish I'd known the size of the collection, I'd have been down there like a shot.

Would be nice if it sells to somewhere in the UK who would keep it all together.

One of the lads in the Facebook car club that i run, (the one with the low mileage bodykitted red Volvo 740 & a beige Sierra) has just bought this hunny too! I don't know what it is but he's only in his early 20's, some kids have all the taste!

I'm trying to work out where this is.

I suspect the remains of that bridge may be under the a90.

I think it's this one over the North Esk

I went to take a look at a Lincoln Town Car this evening (one of the 700 foot long ones). Belongs to a guy we throw some work to. According to him it wasn't "running right" and was "down on power".

Engine is the Ford modular 4.6 V8, same as Rover 75/MG ZT.

Down on power - no shit, Sherlock! It is running on FOUR cylinders and two out of 4 o2 sensors are U/S. The smell of unburnt fuel was terrible. Cyl 1,5,6 & 8 aren't firing. It's been like that "for a week or two"

Some people have no idea.

Is that the one near Steptoe's yard?

Yes, the A92 at Kinnaber. Nowhere near Finavon right enough but that doesn't look like the South Esk there. Far too wide.

Aye, I'm not convinced either. The arches look different. Still doesn't look like the south esk though.

It looks Chrysler-ish to me. Junkman?

A few years ago I was overtaken, going uphill, by a standard looking Honda C90. From the exhaust note and the speed, it was anything but standard though. I'd seen it several times since, usually going at speed with a fair amount of lean on.

I took back the rented compressor this morning, and it turns out it's owned by one of the guys who runs the place!

The engine is now a 150 cc unit, with a few mods he mentioned :-) I only noticed the name on the top box after I loaded the photos
