What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

As I responded in a PM to Dolly (which I don't think he has read yet) I perhaps got caught up in the moment and shouldn't have mentioned this forum in that post, primarily because that seems to have become the issue rather than Norms comments. I chose not to edit my post, hence the spelling error still in that line.

Another post, rather than an edit...

I am sure I have a reputation as the resident (now squatter?) defender of RR amongst certain quarters here. I am bored of that but I was not going to sit back when negative personal suppositions were being vented publicly here.

No worries Seth. Thanks for the PM. As you say, your comments have ended up garnering more attention than the incorrect rantings from Stateside, with which I still heavily disagree.

Norm - sorry but you do have a habit of winding me up. I don't think you do it intentionally, but you do manage it very easily. I don't hate you for it, but nor would I really invite you over for a cup of tea.

If you think this place has gone to pot then why not make a effort and try posting something on here instead of going on that other forum, In fact that other forum has made me a bit grumpy really, Half the decent members from here go over to there to post stuff that should be on here, then moan about how crap this site is. That's the way i see it.

What are your examples of the moaning? All I've noticed is a bit of ribbing about the proliferation of 'what car should I buy?', 'I should have googled this basic problem instead of creating a 10 page monster' threads in the chatbox.

Imagine if some minority interest rubbish car thread was posted on this forum, it'd be buried a few hours.

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick Len, I'm just disappointed there had to be a new forum made instead of those members making an effort to improve this site, I just feel like we are missing stuff on here now because of it.

AS has improved in recent weeks i think, a few trolls have gone quiet and all seems peaceful in the world again (mostly).

I'd have thought it'd cost a decent wedge just to host the website every month not to mention it being quite an expensive do running a show like RRG with insurance and such taken into account.

I think Proboards is actually free to use? Not sure in other cases.

He's quite an old boy if it his Eddie, and his missus looked like the sort of person who'd stab you in the eye with a knitting needle before suffocating you with a badly made wooly hat if you looked at her the wrong way.

I can't tell from the pic, despite zooming into it, but if they are the people I think they are, not only did I introduce them, but she and I went out for some time about 25 years ago.

Not everyone hates RR but like anywhere it's not perfect. Still, people can 'put up or shut up' I suppose and no-one is forced to read the posts or join up if they don't want to.

Not altogether sure why Len really needs to post on here though, he has his new forum to play on and after all by his own standards it's utopia.

Back to the subject title:

Not much I know but 'helping' to change the oil and filter on my lad's 106 we attempted not to swear for a change and pretended to be Scottish instead.

Any success at all in one of those is going to result in total failure at the other, so how did you do?

I've been down at my lockup but I got bugger all done because I was chatting to the guy in the garage next to mine who does body work and stuff. He was telling me about some local bodgers who used tart up old knackers back in the early 90's and send them through the auction. He told me there was an old Fiesta or something that had a totally rotten tail gate so el-bodgers just fillered the tail gate into the car filling all the gaps shut in the process. They then painted it, drew on the gaps with a black marker and sent it to the market! I love stories like this although it sounds like a car I'd probably end up buying,

Went to the new Liverpool Museum earlier today, noticed they have a bit on Halewood and have a Ford Anglia on top of the box (so you basically can't see it very much). I wonder why they didn't use an Escort? Maybe the Anglia was cheaper, or maybe I just associated Halewood more with Escorts than others do. Still fairly interesting place, still one floor not completed though, go Liverpool

That Anglia is the first car produced at Halewood and the first scrote is in storage somewhere.

Shame its stuck in the sky where you can't really appreciate it though.

At least we're still making cars here. Unlike Longbridge.

BL/Rover fans will be pleased to hear that all the engines bound for the JLR factory in Speke are transferred through a warehouse built on the site of the former TR7 factory on Spitfire or Herald Road.

They used to have a mk3 Escort in blue in there - was that the first one produced?

In what has come as a pleasant surprise, I've had two examples of good service this week.

Firstly , three years ago I bought quite an expensive Dimplex fire for the sitting room. It's now out of warranty but has been playing up a bit resulting in four visits from their service team. When I phoned them recently to say it wasn't working again, they straight away said they'd replace it free of charge!Retail price is £1400 so I expected them to squirm far more!!

Secondly, one of the garages I rent from North Herts Council, lets water in under the door when it rains heavily, making the floor very damp . One of their bods came to inspect it today and I was expecting a shrug and 'nuffink we can do, mate' ...but they've agreed to put in a gulley across the front of the garage leading to the nearby drain. It will be done within a month.

Credit where it's due an' all that!

I had a nice chat with an elderly man yesterday, about his 1981 Honda Civic. He has owned it for 20 years and doesn't ever want to sell it, it belonged to his mum before he inherited it. He also said it had never broken down, and the only issue he has with it is rust, along with proclaiming his disliking for new cars, because of the electronics. What a great guy!
