Just found this full length documentary about our own North West based Rover apologist.

All sort of old cars in this (most of which get smashed up), not just American stuff

the junkman was by hb halicki iirc it was all about his life and iirc he was actually killed while making it

Posted

No he wasn't.

He was killed making Gone in 60 Seconds 2 seven years after The Junkman.

There's also an excellent "making of" documentary for The Junkman on YouTube. He got through a few Eldorados which won't have been cheap.

Do you have a link to that?

Its all in Russian but check out a channel by the name of 'Lexx'. Some absolute top dollar shiting going on there with shonky Moskvichs, Gazs, IZHs and even a roguew FSO 1500. He speaks fluent English as I discovered when I complemented his videos.

I bet the ad for the A60 said 'you will need a trailer for this as it's not currently roadworthy, though with a few weekends work you could have a concours contender'

Some hot XM action in this slightly odd film-within-a-film for the launch. The gallic barge is compared with lots of other mid-80s executive chod, and is apparently better than all of them. Beautiful irony of a huge red "STOP" sign in the final sequence.

Incontrovertible proof that windscreen wiper development peaked in 1960 and has been in slow decline ever since...

I enjoyed this. Nice mix of shite. Goes on a bit.
I was watching it on mute and was shocked when the guy vanished a 9:55. So I un-muted and discovered that, "Fortunately, Ken was only bruised".
I might watch it with sound all the way through. At the weekend. It does go on a bit.

EDIT: Don't be put off by the Escort shown here - they don't feature heavily.

I've recently been dipping in and out of the excellent archive of programmes from BBC4 on Iplayer...

I present the interesting character that was Ian Nairn. He did a number of series for the BBC and the three episodes of 'Nairn across Britain' from 1972 are on Iplayer. And Youtube. Lots of Autoshite and Architecturshite and a fascinating man to boot. First episode is introduced by the excellent Jonathan Meades from round about 1990...

I saw the trans pennine canal one a bit ago. Took me ages as I kept pausing it and going on to Google maps.

The end bit was amazing in Leeds. What was once a big open canal basin is now full of poncy flats and restaurants

Nairn's books are worth a read too.  He also wrote the Pevsner guide to Surrey.

I think he made the right decision, not sure I'd have swapped an '84 Golf GTi for a Maestro, Serck plates or not.

Can we just take a moment to bask in how gloriously delicious Volvo S80 V8's sound with a custom exhaust. It's such a vanilla looking modern luxury car, it has no right to sound like it does.
