My mate very kindly donated a sizable roll of brake spanners and fuel pipe clamps today; there are two tools included that he can't identify though, any ideas?

Could the top one be for removing brake shoes? The bottom one could be something similar for the springs, just a guess though.

They're likely to be brake related, I thought the upper might be a spring compressor.

Second one is Definately a Girling tool to assist with fitting brake shoes. I've got one and its no easier with the tool than it is to just use a big flat blade screwdriver.

The sometimes make £10-15 on ebay if you use the right keywords

The top tool is for helping* to install brake shoe springs and the bottom one is for levering brake shoes into position, against spring tension.

I’ve never really found either very useful quite honestly.

Bottom one looks like a shop clothing display hook - we used them off the solid metal bar wall racks in Woolworths.

The top one is some sort of hammer and the bottom one is some sort of hammer.

You're welcome.

Looks more like an spring expander.

What are the numbers? "Wanoda" whiffs of France to me.

Top one looks like a brake shoe set installation tool of some sort.  Most drum brakes can be assembled as.. erm,, well, an assembly, and then fitted complete to the backplate once the wheel cylinder is installed.  Often you need an expanding tool to do so, so the shoes are expanded over the wheel cylinder (particularly the type with slots in the cylinder pistons) and it all drops in to place.  Much easier on a production line than faffing about with individual shoes and springs.

Actually, I've worked (the top one) it out now.

Yes they are spring compressors, but they aren't for valves. They are handbrake cable pliers.

Here's the modern equivalent Facom D.79A: https://www.master-outillage.com/facom/44694-pince-pour-frein-a-main-facom-d79a-3148510181844.html

And a picture of another alternative manufacture's pliers in use:

I enjoy the risk of severed digits and always use knackered screwdrivers where possible.
