I thought it was pretty awesome. I loved the looks, the engine and the interior, it is a surprisingly nimble steer and very comfortable.

Sadly I have rather run out of space and need to raise some cash and the Avantime is the most obvious one to go as I don't generally have a need for such a large car.

Do you get some sort of loyalty card discount deal with your local MoT guy now?

I really like mine too . They must be pretty light with all that plastic I was also surprised at how well they drive and handle. . I find the driving position quite uncomfortable on long journeys . I had a totally dead right foot after a 3 hour drive .

I haven't heard the word "ferrule" in donks, then two of Phil's flop him an MOT.

Phil - Keith Adams is currently looking for a new motor. He has expressed an interest. Do I get commission? ;)

Bye Bye S2000, sold to a Honda Stealer today.

7 years of ownership and the only thing it needed in that time was a new set of Pads, if you ever get a chance to own one you should jump at it.

The Honda dealer was a depressing experience though, sad to see a great engineering brand reduced to selling 3 models of dull pensioner transportation.

No, but you will get a highly coveted* prize of some description.

I'll get a proper for sale advert up in the next couple of evenings. Probably not tomorrow as I have a Polish lesson, but I should have one together by the end of the week. We'll say that it comes with 12 months MOT as I should be able to get this lot sorted out at the weekend no sweat.

A giffer just reversed into the side of my Polo in Asda car park at circa 2 miles per hour.

Luckily all I need to do is straighten the fuel flap out and put a very tiny bit of filler on the quarter panel.

Also this is the advantage of a roller paint job.

Lol, saw one of these a few days ago. Most people will buy into this German car-marketing crap, even if their car looks like weirdly shaped Black and White floor tiles.

I actually quite like those, I think.  At least they're different, looks-wise: bravery and (arguably) originality are not things you'd accuse many new cars of these days.

Posted

Indeed. I like them, which is doubley strange for me given my general dislike of BMWs and moderns.

I think that the i3 is an interesting idea-totally different approach to styling and functionality vis the pious/leavemealone/wannamaker etc.

The range extender version makes fairly good sense as a longer distance daily-esp if you can recharge at the office

I bet the i3 won't work if you don't hold the steering wheel "properly" :D

The i3... Designed when the BMW marketing department realised they had models to appeal to all types of wanker apart from the self-righteous ones !

None taken ;-)8)

I quite like the i3 too. BMW seem to have taken a proper stab at this electronic motor vehicle malarky. I've a feeling this could make the the LEAF look like the laserdisc techology wise.

I wasn't sure whether I should post this in the grump thread or here, well it's here.

As mentioned at the Scotoshite meet last night the steering on the boring is occasionally a bit vague. I thought I'd try swapping front and rear wheels round to see if it's the tyres causing the vague steering. After swapping the wheels front to back & vice versa I found a couple of ball bearings under the car.... Arse, so unless the ball bearings were there previously I reckon I've got a knackered cv joint and I'm 360 miles from home.

Cheers mate, I'll let you know.

I'm in Dundee atm. A guy I'm working with here has a mate who runs a garage, I'm going to take it there first thing tomorrow.

I'm supposed to be working here next week, so worst case I'll stay here for the weekend if I can't get the car fixed tomorrow.

Funnily enough the first (and so far only) one of those fugly BMW things I've seen was one the same colour in Morrisons in Aber, probably the same one. There were three old giffers in it, and the one in the back looked to be having understandable trouble getting out of the car.

Posted

Skattrd . What size are the ball bearings ? Cv joint must have been knocking it's cock off for ages for the balls to fall out . Not to mention the cv boot must be split wide open

Posted

Twosmoke, the ball bearings are about 8mm at a guess. The outer cv has a split and there is a bit of a clatter, but no knocking, it's a 15yr old diesel running on veg, so a bit of clatter is normal.

Posted

Bit small for cv joint balls I would have thought . Top strut mount maybe ?

Maybe I was slightly wrong on the size, possibly 1cm diameter?

Here is one sitting on a penny, its a tad smaller than a 1p.

I haven't driven the car since I discovered 2 of these under it, I'm nervous about driving it and was waiting until the morning to drive to the garage.
