I Spent the weekend in the midlands, and generally had a good trip :)

The Scimitar has developed a loud rumble from the rear end though which sounds very ominous and the replacement gearbox (changed last month) now appears to spread the smell of hot EP90 into the cabin....

I also took this photo: ( the escort belongs to a mate )

The ex dollywobbler / garethj / minimad5 Citroen BX should be making its way from merseyside to Devon today. This isn't autoshite live, more autoshite international as I've organised it all whilst we are visiting the in laws in Germany.

How times have changed. Its my birthday, and 9 years ago today I was merrily collecting a brand new Honda civic type r from the dealers. I'm probably more excited about the prospect of this rusty, leaky old citroen at 2% of the price. That's what this place is all about I guess.

I need to investigate the hissing behind the dash in the 405. This coupled with no brakes first thing in the morning makes me suspect servo is leaking.

I don't really want to spend a penny until i lob it in for MOT to see what needs doing on it.

That 406 has a little more than "cosmetic damage" to the front - the panel gaps around headlight wing, bonnet and bumper are all over the place. Also, I dont know about UK but over here, decent used front bumpers for these are gold plated unobtainium.

Nice cars otherwise, I quite fancy one myself and will probably get one as soon as a cheap enough proposition comes along.

Autoshite newsdesk: reports confirmed of the autoshite bike Citroen Bx being towed down the M6/M5 Devon bound

That 406 went for £500 in the end which still seems like a bit of a bargain even with the damage. Oh well, the search continues

Definitely - I had assumed it would go up a bit towards the end - its way cheap by French standards!

Damage aside, for 500 it would be worth a punt, and if the worst came to the worst would probably make your money back breaking it.

I honestly reckon they are one of the better looking cars available and certainly about the best for chod money. I used to have a nice Calibra V6 and while I sometimes fancy another I reckon I would be disappointed with another one, but always thought of the 406 as a more modern equivalent.

I noticed a missing wheel bolt from the front of my five stud Honda accord.

I MUST be the culprit, as I changed the discs and pads the other weekend.

Anyway, 4 of the original wheel bolts were in the boot, from someone fitting Honda locking nuts, at some point in the last 10 years, (they look new so maybe the dealer) so 2 mins later I had all 20 bolts in place and tested with the brace.

Did you hammer more confusion into the hole?

cv joint on mondogno is clicking when turning, on investigation i found small tear in the gaiter so i smeared black silicone over tear to seal it,and so pulled the gaiter back repacked the joint in bain attempt to bodge it and million cable ties to hold it back on, until payday if totally knackered to replace the whole shaft.

Not really shite, but the S2000 had to have new front calipers today as they have been getting a little toasty while driving, not that the wife had noticed the smoke coming off em the other day........

I'm a bit pissed that a 8 year old car with only 40k on the clock needs the calipers replacing, but apparently "they all do that Sir"

Bloody thing must know we are thinking of getting rid, what's the best place to get a valuation on it?

Took TV2 to the scrapyard today:

I only got £140 for it, but at least it's not my problem any more; I'm actually quite relieved to see it go, given the many issues it had.

Still on course to collect the Wentworth tomorrow morning :)

Chatting to a good mate about old chod: "What happened to your old Dolomite?", I ask. "Oh... it's down the bottom of the garden"

It's a 1300 in reddish brown, needs sills, a rear arch and a new rear screen (it is covered up, though). Lots of new bits a few years ago, brakes, SS exhaust etc. Going to have a look Monday and if I don't fancy it, I'll offer it up on here with photoz.

J and R Driveshafts online worth a look for bits, quality stuff cheaper than the tat my local factors sell.

It shows it's always worth enquiring, this is how a friend acquired his A35 from his uncle who had put it away in a shed many years before. Although it can be upsetting when you find that something has survived for years, but been given to the scrapman the week before you ask about it.

Just picked up 5 series . Seems nice for the money but air con doesn't work and it's got mega annoying vectraesque indicators . No wonder BMW drivers don't use them.

The Queen went past my work today (the royal one, not the skinhead down the road with the eyeliner).

Her and phil the greek looked well pissed off, don't know why. They should try spending every day in Blackburn like me, then they'd know fucking misery..........

A quick google about the aircon brought up this, which actually seems to be the case with my car. I like BMW's but they got waaaaay too carried away with idrive thing

The temp of the air coming from the vents is adjustable from hot - cold. You adjust it via the idrive (which is a completely twanky idea, but anyway that's how it's done). Go into climate, then push the idrive button right to highlight the little box with blue or red bars in it next to the person symbol, either turn for red (hot) bars or blue (cold) bars, that will make it cold enough to freeze your face-off.

So in summary you can turn the knob on the dash to make the heater go from hot to cold but you can old go into the computer and you have three different variations of how hot and cold you'd like the hot or cold knob to be. Mind boggling. You can also move the position of the heated bit of your seat so you can chose what bit of your arse heat up. Pointless.

The Acclaim turned 50000 miles today and touch wood is still performing admirably, apart from wheel wobble at 50mph, I'll need to get those new tyres re-balanced again.

I've just sent an email to a guy in France who's selling a rusty car that I can't really afford. I have even worked out how much the ferry is going to cost already. I thought I was cured of all that but clearly not.  :blink2:

Off to collect The Wentworth from leafy Woking this morning. I hope that it's as good as the chap selling it made out in the eBay listing. Pictures and some sort of collection thread will appear later, probably.

My merc was collected this morning by this guy - the 190 looked smart. It's been two hours now and no phone call (no news is good news!).  He says it's a 9.5hour book time and reckons he'll get most of it done today. I admire his optimism!

Yes - my citroen garage didn't want to do it and tried to get a quote from a couple of local (Isleworth) engine specialists but no-one got back to them. Looking closer to home I found this guy based in Bracknell who is Mercedes trained (4 year course) with 16  years experience in the dealerships. But he's only part time at the moment so had to wait a few weeks till he could fit me in on the bank holiday. Seems pleasant enough and quote was less than I feared. Still not heard any more bad news :-)
