Nope, most of these plastic lights are  laquered. On the e39's it bubbles and flakes off making them go opaque. He also did it for nothing as I'd prepped them :)

Is it in the same deep green as your garage doors?

Nope, but it's the same colour as my neighbour's garage door! Stealth car paint is for winners. Or possibly mingebags. Probably the latter.

Ho hum, my offer has been accepted so I just need to get off my fat arse and arrange collection.

Topped up the oil on the Beetle this afternoon. Removed the filler cap and it was well mayo'd up... OMG HGF!!!

Cogs turned in my head...

Oh yeah, it's fuggin' air-cooled ya div.

Still, better change the oil, like. 'Tis but about seven years old what's in there.

I've driven up to Newcastle-upon-tyne this weekend for a stag do. I took the Mondeo. I never fail to be amazed by just what a treat it is to drive this car round, its ridiculous really as its clearly a £400 shitter with a cracked front bumper and a patch of red oxide on one sill. However it drives so well, and is such a pleasure to operate that i can't help feeling like a winner when i travel round in it. Did about 375 miles over the weekend which cost about £75 in pez, travelled with a mate so the cost was quite reasonable really. Its so smooth and quiet, you can stick the cruise control on at 85 and have a relaxed conversion about your share portfolio or whatever. I'm back to hammering up and down the A50 in my postman pat van tomorrow but this was a very pleasant diversion. Drives better than ever after all the MOT shiz got sorted.

Sirion did 46mpg on the last tank of fuel (a fair bit of 70-75mph on that tank) but as I filled up, I noticed it was pissing fuel out. Seems there's a leak in the filler neck, thankfully near the top. Explains why it stinks of fuel after filling up. I'd better investigate that I guess.

Bravas and Bravos used to be everywhere.  The last one I can recall seeing was in Sheffield about 3 years ago...

I've had to reset my Brava/o Spot-o-meter as I saw one today in a car park. Didn't get a picture, I was distracted by one of the three brown local Estelles that I finally managed to photograph. I'll do a spots update at some point to prove it.

On the subject of Bravos, did they all have fuel & temp gauges that cycled through the whole colour spectrum when the lights were on? I only had mine for a few (very enjoyable) weeks, and it was such a weird feature that I'm starting to wonder if I just imagined it.

Picked up this crock this morning.

115BHP 1.9 diesel, 142k on the clock but drives well enough. No real issues apart from a lack of service history and a dodgy climate control which has been bypassed with a manual switch, may or may not be repairable.

Weirdly it has a full set of newish mud and snow tyres! It's fully loaded too, twin electric sunroofs, wow!!

It needs the cripple tax removing before I can get it on the road properly, which is a pain.

Do I like it? Yes, but give it a few months and ill tell you then!

Is there anybody who works for a fiat dealer on here who can give me some info on what work its had done in the dealer network?

Ah, I told someone on here you were after one of those a few weeks ago:

It looks like my merc's dpf has fell off or got jammed full of bees or something . Hopefully I'll have it back tomorrow although driving the e39 isn't a hardship.

Wish I'd spotted that, although i'm more than happy with the Multipla I have now.

Thanks to a lovely shiter in here i;s had an HPI check too. All clear apart from it being a CAT D when it was a year old. Must have been pretty smashed up, I can't find any old repaired damage on it though- meh, makes no odds on an old shitter anyway.

I forgot all about it but guess the seller wasn't too bothered if he didn't get in touch. The one you bought looks very nice to be fair.

I wonder if some of us would be brave enough to put some of our old shitters through an HPi check? There are some things it's better not to know!

Spent Sunday doing trials on the new Nissan Leaf van set for europe

I put my BMW on swapz and so far have had offers off a

A very tidy MK3 Golf GTI

BMW 323i

Jaguar X-Type 2.5 AWD.

None of them really float my boat. If the Jag had been a 3.0 manual I might have been tempted as an awd car could be good for SNOW KAOS

My X Type is a 2.5 auto AWD, and copes with snow jolly well. Also, show it too much of the shoe, and it 4 wheel drifts lovely. To be fair the S Type I had was no slouch in the snow if you were careful, and miles better than my W221s which were frankly worse than useless.

Is yours an auto or a manuel-fawlty-towers-290.jpg

This one's a 51 plate SE with leather and all that but it's an auto. The auto in my XJ is lovely but I'm not sure what the X-type ones are like.

I guess this is the Ford Zetec v6?

My missus is trying to talk me out getting shot of almost everything in the fleet. It's not quite working. I daresay I'll have to resign my Autoshite membership.

If anyone is looking for an '89 Cavalier SRi130 (out of test), a '91 Senator 3.0CD 24v (out of test), a '92 Montego 1600LX (test til next October IIRC, 6 months tax) or an '88 760 Turbo (test til May, six months tax) get in touch...

Less is often actually more. What state are the Vauxhalls in?

Both more or less complete; the Senator needs welding finished on the offside outer sill having had both rear inner and outer arches replaced and both sills plated; when I moved job I lost use of a man who could weld so the work was never completed. Underneath it's pretty solid, think it was needing a shocker on the back but nothing too untoward. The Cavalier had bulkhead grumpiness at the nearside steering rack mount and needed a small plate at the back end. Again, the above job move was the pisser. I should just learn to weld but I'm both mechanically inept and slow to learn (according to my guitar which I've been "learning" for the best part of seven years).

How far back does HPI go?

Posted

Ages, but I think the registering of damaged cars only came in in the 90's as my old man used often hammer a smaller cortina over a damaged one and sell it on at full price.

I've found someone who wants to buy the Merc! They're a Naval Officer so can only communicate by email, but they're going to send me the money as soon as I give them my paypal, then their shipping company will do the rest.

Time for some fun..........

You obviously haven't had it in there long enough because its actually the law you HAVE to be offered several Mondeos.
