Blimey Pete I thought you had given up on that when he demanded loads more money?

Good news anyway. Photo shoot coming?

Yip, 90% odds on my ebayer is a time wasting cattle molester. I googled the address that came up via ebay and it doesn't seem to exist. The street's there but the house numbers run out a few before the one he's got on his address.

did you street view it and see if they have either built new houses or there is space on the street for more?

It's looking like he's going to have to wait for a while to get paid (less than he's demanding), but it's near as dammit ready to roll. It ain't perfect, but it's solid and pretty straight looking.

It will need paintwork when it gets here, but I can deal with that when the time comes.

This is a video taken of it by my mate a week or so ago.

It's quite scary just how much is involved in saving a Mk2 from the jaws of rust. This has been a big, big job and it's not over yet.

It's possible there are house there or the streets laid out in a funny way. It still doesn't stop him being nearly 500 miles away and not made any contact.

Glad you have persevered with it Pete, also good to see you still on here!

I'll put a full thread about it up at some point. Possibly.

I don't know if it fits on Autoshite anymore. It's just a bog standard Mk2 Escort Sport. I suspect it's too SCENE TAX YO for here nowadays.

Pete

it was once shite, it still is - just that some people think it's better than shite (the fools!)

Technically I'm not sure my 2CV counts as shite given how values have gone. However, I paid shite money for it back in 2000 and it looks bloody awful, so it fits.

It has been revealed today that the Disco needs a new rad. At least work is underway and I now have an explanation for why it appeared to have lost some coolant. That opens up the question of where to buy a decent rad. OE ones seems hideously expensive (£200 upwards) and I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a car that cost just over twice that to buy. There again, I don't want a shitty Britpart one that'll fall apart in seconds. Hopefully I've ordered one that's somewhere between the two.

There's been so much work involved in getting this old lump back solid and looking vaguely factory it's in the position where it pretty much has to be kept now.

So next thing to do is find a 2.0 Zetec..

Managed to get TV2's aircon working correctly after several months of defunctitude this afternoon, by the simple expedient of re-gassing the system with an eBay re-gassing kit 8)

I could be wrong, but I suspect that the system was almost bereft of refrigerant due to the monkey who re-gassed it last summer leaving the screw-on cover of the low-pressure port finger tight...

Who gives a shit if it's "Autoshite" or not, It's interesting and I'd like to read about it, that's all that matters to me.

It looks like a lot of classic Autoshite is rapidly leaving Autoshite territory price-wise, or has done already.

Although it will be out of the financial reach for many on this here forum, it will always remain Autoshite, no?

I mean, the way things are going, we will see good Marinas and Allegros fetching 3k+ before long.

Would this make them not being Autoshite anymore?

And were the MK1 and MK2 Escorts ever shite? The ones I owned were shit.

They only became good when they were modified.

I kind of thought you'd given up on the Escort given all the hassle you've has with it. I'd like to see a write up on it too if you've got the time.

In other newz SMART BIDDER IN EBAY MONG (NON) SHOCKER. They just contacted me saying they meant to bid but pressed the buy it now button only in much worse english.

I thought I'd sell it easy as it's cheap (for what it is), very easy of fuel, looks pretty good and has a year mot and 6 months tax. All I've had from autotrader is "I'm currently serving in the navy and am in the middle of a submarine deployment. If I bank transfer you 9000 euros could you buy 4500 euro million lottery tickets and if one of them winds subtract your asking price. etc etc etc"

Bought the last one for mine from this outfit on ebay, fitted 2 years ago, still working well.

Because I cba to sort out a different picture hoster and my bandwidth is exceeded, there are no update pictures to accompany this news, but the Princess door bottoms and some of the sides are now red oxide.  Weirdly, the car looks better and worse simultaneously for having all the wob gouged out and the good metal hiding underneath being painted in primer.  Probably going to be easiest to repair the doors by taking them off the car, but that's something I'm going to have to time carefully what with it being my only transport at the moment.

EDIT: Oh but wait!  I can add pictures now because we're on the Improved Dave Blend forum.

That's actually bloody useful, I like that tool.

Wifey's alfa clutch slave cylinder was leaking so I attempted some replacement fittage. The old one was well and truly welded into the alloy bracket thanks to some bimetallic corrosion and my rather agricultural attempts to unweld it resulted in a cracked bracket. Oh how I laughed.

Being an advocate of 'the bodge' I carried on regardless and the new cylinder seems to be functioning. Hopefully it will last long enough for me to get a replacement bracket (circa 5 years).

In other weekend news, car number eight was added to the driveway. I had planned to buy some French shite for our family holiday to France but with time running out and my search proving fruitless, I've ended up with some German shit instead. Still going to France though.

It's maybe more shit than shite but at £650 the kraut mobile definitely conforms to bangernomics. Behind the disgay.

New Disco rad arrived today. Despite my best efforts, its a Shitpart one. Oh well. They are at least cheap. I may get the thing back today.

I've picked up a mondeo estate in 2.0 zetec manual flavor which has donated it's decent tyres to the Leon and is now up for sale on RR and Ovalchat as I figured there'd be no call for it here. The thing's rather chuffing heavy as I found when it sent my transit into a drift on a greasy off camber roundabout whilst A framing it back to base!

In other news one of the caravans brand new with label still attached (though prob years old) Michelins let go on the M20 the other week sheding it's tread and destroying the spat over the wheel in the process. Oh how I laughed when my 19mm socket shattered whilst undo the wheel nuts lying inchs away from 70 + mph traffic.

Dommy has new MOT. It needed a tyre swapping for the just legal rear I'd been saving for the test, a cycle reflector bodging on the back as the old one had fallen off and the sprocket guard bodging back on as I had to pull it off when the chain snapped the other month. The bikes done good and really deserves a new tyre when I can spare some cash.

A new contender has appeared for my car problem.  The eBay tat thread on here has a lot to answer for.  Insurance the same, mpg about the same, tax much cheaper.

Oh, and it's 4 hours drive away, because it's not chod if there's not an epic* collection to be had.

I went to look at this, this afternoon.

102396924.400.jpg

It's a cavalier coupe (not sports hatch). It's pretty rare thing as most of these came out as Opels.

It's done 73k and has been owned by the same chap (sadly deceased) since 1978.

Over all it's reasonably smart. It's had a not that great blow over at some point and can see some runs that someone's tried to polish out it, paint on rubbers

etc but it's 37 years old. It's a 1.9 manual and has probably done no more than a couple of hundred miles in the last 5 years so will need some fettling as the guy in the garage says it floods and is generally grumpy when cold.. Anyway they want 2 grand for it which I think is strong much as there's no history, old mot's or anything like that and it's far from mint. It is bloody nice though and my SD1 is currently KO'd. Tempting.

Rare and very early by the look of it too. I also vote for SD1 expenditure though. Sorry. We're obviously in dull, sensible mode today.

I do like the Mk1 Cav Coupes though, that one's been up for sale for a while hasn't it?, I recall that being posted on here last year at the same garage.

Aye they've had it since August or September I think. I recon 1500 would get it.

Spending money on the SD1 isn't the same as buying a new car as I could actually drive it even though the Cav would no doubt conk out immediately.

What ever the story with the SD1 I need to spend time and money on it to get it running again (i'm waiting for bit from America). I did get a quote for £2500 to source and fit an e34 525i engin and manual box. Maybe I should just skin myself and do this. Not autoshite but OMGZ DRIFTWEPON!

Hmm... spoken to the vendor about the mystery car and they're one of those lovely people that just want to see the car go to a loving home, which I'd happily give it.  They sent me some pictures of the rusty bits and while some of it is bad, it's not as bad as the BX so I am sorely tempted now.  They may even end the auction early if it means the car doesn't go to a dealer or banger racer, I just need to talk to some people first.  If I go for this car, it's not going to be the stupidest car I've ever bought or considered, but it'll be up there and Autoshite will be almost entirely to blame.

I say go for it. At the very least you'll have something cool to cruise around in this summer, then if you decide you want to put the money back into the SD1, you should be able to sell it easily and not lose anything on it.

Or wait 5-6 weeks and buy a freshly restored, serviced 735i with 12 mths MOT ?
