Oh, as a test, can anyone tell what's unusual about the GS engine here?

It works?

Ha, ha. I think they all worked there. The lump of metal and bracketry at the front should be a clue.

(Specifically, the direction of the belt for said pump. Water cooling obvious, and my first thought was Subaru swap, but...)

Suitcase engine in a GS? Quelle horreur!

No. All wrong so far :-)

Made by Citroen by the way.

And it's for sale.

Trying to get a few miles on the Scomadi so I can run it by the book. Did 45 miles this morning just bumbling about, came home for a bit, then met my mate who got his last Monday. We went for a spin and got probably 25 miles or so of gentle riding.

Up to about 460 miles now (281 on it when purchased) so starting to get there. Even used Shell Costimax (or whatever it's called) expensive petrol.

It's not a Birotor is it?

Kerching!

Yes, according to the blurb, found in a French barn in 2008 I think. Not restored but now in running condition. One of very few left. No price on the for sale sheet though. It sounded like a jet on take off!

Wankel in the GS?

That's usually what happens when we see one, yes...

This evening's entertainment was brought to you by the children's entertainment workshop, and various sad middle aged men discussing 40yr old engine bays :-)

I was there too!

Did you see the blue SD1? Guy had just recently bought it and drove it down from Oban. Looked really nice.

Actually I didn't think to ask. But I've no idea where the spare wheel is?

Well, the Saab is on the way now.

Delivery tomorrow all being well. Have cleared out the garage so a cosy home awaits.post-5532-0-94109600-1502046226_thumb.png

From Wikipedia....

GS Birotor

Citroën GS Birotor engine

1975 GS Birotor interior

A two rotor GS was launched in 1973. Dubbed the Citroën GS Birotor (also called Citroën GZ), it featured a much more powerful 79 kW (106 hp) Wankel birotor produced by the joint NSU-Citroën Comotor project. This style of motor is noted for its smooth power delivery which complemented the luxurious ride quality of the hydropneumatic suspension. Even better, the engine was small relative to its power, an advantage for Tax horsepower calculations, which drive automobile design in France.[18]

The Birotor was extensively reengineered for the Comotor 624 engine. Discs all around (ventilated in front), different wheels with a five-bolt pattern rather than three, and a three-speed semi-automatic transmission were combined with a more luxurious interior and flared fenders to set the Birotor apart from its lesser siblings.

The Birotor cost as much as the larger Citroën DS, and 70% more than the standard GS. The fuel economy was worse than the largest DS - the DS23EFI.[19] So it was not economical for its size, and was launched in October 1973, the exact start of the 1973 oil crisis.

The Birotor version achieved poor sales and was quickly pulled from the market, after 847 units were sold.

The sales were so disappointing that Citroën attempted to buy back and scrap each Birotor, as it did not want to support the model with spare parts. A few of these remarkable vehicles have nonetheless survived in the hands of collectors, many without titles for some time as Citroën did not want to recognize the cars.

I was chatting to him about it. He was asking me if it's normal for the cabin to fill up with exhausts fumes. I said yes, it was and he should gaffa tape up the boot vents to stop his brain cells being destroyed.

It was a really nice one.

Builders foam works a treat.

I was going to take Maestro to the show but on further inspection the front tyres are so cracked and split I didn't fancy dieing on the way.

Here's some highlights.

this mk1 rally car had had a hard life! I like seeing them like this rather than all wobbed up for maximum retail ££

Also nearly every Escort and Fiesta at the show had a black top zetec in it. There was one escort that had the original x-flow in it.

Nice 12v GSi3000. I was earwigging the old boy who owns it and he says he's going to leave it to his grandson in his will. Lucky boy

The Bedford here was sold by a local Vauxhall dealer and converted by a now defunct emergency vehicle coachworks in Irvine. It went up to Inverness to be be a fire engine then came back to the same Vauxhall dealer at the end of it's life and was restored.

Healey sprite with a really neat looking twin cam conversion.

Here's the escort I mentioned. I has been modified (bumpers, wide wheels) but had kept the look, the engine and the houndstooth seats. Lovely.

I have steps on my driveway to the side door, the last owner (elderly) had added an extra step to the bottom of it, which jutted out quite far, meaning even the Abarth is at risk of hitting it if I'm not careful, meaning the Lexus had no chance.

So this evening I removed the step, meaning "Operation Bring lexbarge home" is agogo next weekend.

I've also been planning ahead, thinking of what car i fancy "in the near future", and I feel it's time to get a proper classic, i'm thinking along the lines of Morris Minor or Austin Cambridge.

Strangely I was just looking at that SD1 on car and classic. £5000

Your 22 year old 316 isn't enough of a Classic?

It's in that awkward age where the average punter gives it funny looks if I say its a classic car and take it to shows (They expect Morris Minors and MG's) but its a classic in that its old enough to be one. But it drives on par with anything from the past 20 years, bar tech gizmos and emissions.

But for me, I fancy that feel of a proper old car, in looks and driving feel.

Do it.

I've fancied doing the MGB thing for years and just jumped. Utterly different to anything I've driven before. Makes it fun for that reason. If you like fiddling with stuff there is plenty to do so on 70s and before stuff too.

I've not regretted my decision (yet).

What twincam is in that Spridget? I can't work it out.

Bare cambelts like that always scare me, the cost of a stone or anything flicking into them would always be on my mind.
