As the clocks went back this morning,I decided to get up an hour earlier, head over to my mothers house,to go and see ENK.

Who or what is ENK?i here you ask.

With all this talk of Bentley's,Rolls Royce and Jaguar's i thought i would join in with my Daimler 250 V8.

Now she hasn't been used for a while,

^^ I've got new style plates currently on the 166, complete with euro gb thing on them too, planning on getting some old ones made up here too. Anyone know what logo Alan Day Alfa reading would have used in about 2000?

I would have said try DMB but they don't have any on file according to the website.

What I did to find my dealer sticker was to go on eBay and search for Fords that were on an X-Y plate and see what comes up. Found an X-plate Fiesta complete with rear window sticker. Also had a round sticker that went in the windscreen which was Dagenham Motors branded but it wasn't a good enough image to try and get it replicated. So might be worth sticking in Alfas new in 2000-2001 on there!

EDIT* This Alfa's got the Alan Day window sticker.

That Daimler is gorgeous, is it auto or manual? I came close to buying one many years ago when they were just another old car, sadly while not looking too rusty from a few feet away, it appeared that the bottom 3" of the car had been hewn from plastic padding and newspaper. (The paint was so thin on one sill you could nearly read the newsprint). I was still keen though, until I got an insurance quote which was more than the cost of the car.

Oh wow. My favourite of the Mk2 Jags. Lovely machines. That'll be a late one with those skinny bumpers, though I think the Daimlers kept with proper leather after the Mk2 had gone to that Ambla stuff.

Re the exploding zafiras, amys sister came round in hers this morning, and I had the glovebox light out. There wasnt a bulb in it, but the live terminal had got hit and melted the plastic housing...

I left it out and unplugged. had amys out as well, which is the same peice, same part number etc, no meltage but left it out too...

It is real, not just daily fail scaremongering

Those Daimlers are fantastic things: that Edward Turner designed V8 is a bloody gem, powerful and light. It was such a shame that Jaguar binned all Daimlers  engines when they took them over 'cos the 4.5 that the Majestic Major had was bloody epic - Jaguar ran one on a MK X mule and it ran rings round the old iron XK motor!

But it was 'not cool man' for the taken-over to over-take the taker-overer!

Don't the Daimler V8s have a rear suspension difference as well? Or am I just mis-remembering in my quandary filled brain? I much prefer the Daimlers to the MK11s and most of them are autos (which I like!) and they sound lovely.

Keep it for ever, funeral pyre at the appropriate time! :)

Thanks for the comments guys. She is a lovely old thing but does need a little work.

DW it has blue leather. I rather the slim bumpers over the earlier cars bumpers.

As for insurance i think it costs me £113 a year.

The Turner V8 is a lovely engine with 140bhp through the auto box.

When we come to sell my mothers house, i will loose the storage so i may have to sell.

I grabbed some pictures of the offening housing when she dropped my daughter back

Love those cars.  Would give my right bollock for one with the Majestic Major V8 (it's been done).

+1 on the Daimler love. Would be a real shame to sell it though, get your name down on the council lock-up waiting list I'd say.

In my news, winter prep on the Cavalier continued today with a coolant change and new wipers. Got the stuff from Wilko after the heads up from beko about blades being 2 quid each, and the antifreeze 4 quid a litre. It was a half-arsed one as i didn't flush the rad or anything, but is better than nothing. I've also got two new Hankooks for the front that I'll get fitted this week, and I had the new front shocks fitted last week plus a bit of weldage. Next thing is to dinitrol its ass. The front end is OK as a long term oil leak has done a good job of protecting it there!

I'm also eyeing up more shite as a backup winter hack. Vectra Bs are a possible, but they look so bloody dismal inside. Although an estate in a decent colour and spec can look quite appealing, I think...

As mentioned on crail thread one of the coolant hoses popped on Saab.

Tried a few different methods to fix but none quite worked. Managed to get it down to a drip but for 300 mile journey home I needed it to be as water tight as possible. In the end bought a new reel of hose wrap and wrapped the whole hose. Also replaced the hose spring clips with jubilee clips as got fed up of manhandling them on and off.

New hose ordered from Germany. UK suppliers only had a set for £90 which is 1/5th of cars price.

I should be sad that you like it, but I can never be sad about someone liking a zx!

i am having the same issues with the XJR, currently it is sat rather unloved at the FiL's who, in the spirit of ALL old people like to have a proper moan from time to time, currently the subject of the Jaguar is cause for a whinge.

i have said i'm going to put it up for sale, that way i get to keep the piece, but since i'll be looking for £2.5k for it, and that i'm not going to try too hard to sell it, that will buy me some piece and quiet.

the odd occasions that i do use it, i find i'm soon back in love with the car again.....

Love that XJ-R. My Dad turns 70 next year and has always wanted a Jag so I'll be looking out for one to treat him, that looks a beauty.

Do you let him drive it?

I find a lot of moans about garages and parking went away when i put my dad on the insurance for the cars. For their 49th anniversary my parents drove the X1/9 down to Shrewsbury for lunch, apparently overtaking a few cars on the a5 too.

When I swap the cars around ( I have two with me, but only supposed to have one space) then the parents can use them when they want - my dad usually only takes the Mercedes to Cheshire Oaks as it's easy to park there.

sadly the FiL finds it damn near impossible to get into the Jaguar, and then finds it even harder to get back out of it.

been well into his '70s, he finds that the XJ sits just "that" bit too low for access, a shame as when he was a younger man a jaguar would have been THE car he would liked to have owned. he has been out in the car though, and does like both the smooth nature of the engine and auto box, and also the proper wood dash and leather trim.

the car is going early next week to have the exhaust looked at, the finisher fell off the end of the drivers side and having had a nosey round it is looking moth eaten. it is the original system, so it has done 20 years service, and i've got an almost new second hand one here at home for it.

otherwise the body on the car is damn near mint, it is something that i would miss if, or when i was to sell it.

(Only got halfway on the funds but couldn't hang on any longer! Budgets vs. cashflow and so forth...)
