Fleet news;

The bluebird helped friends to move and in the end they liked it so much they bought it! It's place has been taken by a 1987 land rover 90 which has neither chequer plate nor slogans on it. Just moss and lichen.

At DS_20 Acres I discovered this afternoon that the Saab has a mahoosive water ingress problem in the boot.

Joy, joy, and thrice joy.

I got unreasonably excited by this pic. Not because it's a Merc but because there is a Rover 800 in this pic.

The Rover 800 looks to be a late post-1996 facelift 820Si finished in BRG or Woodcote Green, but being a later car it would be badged as an 800. Looks to have Grey fluted cloth interior.

This was a very uninteresting post post brought to you by Lord Sterling.

In more very boring news, I finally got the Merc some more keys, so now it's got 3 keys. I bought 2 blanks off eBay but the keycutter refused to touch them even though they were from the same manufacturer citing "inferior quality metal" that would mess up his machine. Had to get some ordered in, but when I went back a week later the ordered keys hadn't been delivered, so another couple were ordered, arrived today and new keys were cut.

They work well but don't seem to want to open the boot lock. I don't care as long as it works on other locks.

That Vito looks like an utter horror! How can you tell it's a 2.0 LS?

What is point electronic handbrakes? Just rescued the in laws from their stranded VAG shite, the handbrake is stuck on.

Electric handbrakes are the perfect way to f*ck up a perfectly good system with one that is half as good and several times as expensive to fix when it goes wrong.

Electric hand brakes are a joke and I think most manufactures have dropped them again now. I have got a passat in tomorrow for another caliper. The daft thing is that the Renault handbrake is actually more reliable than the VAG shite, it is still rubbish and costs a fortune to put right but lasts slightly longer than the VAG idea.

In actual car news, I've been steadily preparing the 2CV for its upcoming 500-mile roadtrip. I've put some petrol in it and Mrs DW has dug out her earplugs. Turns out taking the 2CV is a wise move. I'm still wiped out after a dose of man-flu, so there's a fair chance we'll be sharing the driving. Never particularly pleasurable because Mrs DW hates me being a passenger and I hate being a passenger. This is a trip to visit family in Sussex, so naturally, I've arranged to visit a Citroen scrapyard on the way...

On another note I have just found that the pair of Fregate Domaine's I looked at last year are still for sale at a very reasonable 1000 euro. All I need is someone who could bring them back from near Caen either 1 at a time or both together. The guy selling them is a bit of a pikey but sound enough. He has got a very interesting yard full of old French tat, but doesn't speak a word of English. I would ideally like them delivered to just off the M5 in Somerset but could collect anywhere in the south if they can get across the channel cheaply. They are a bit too rough to A frame as the best one has no wings or front panel fitted although they are included amongst all the other junk piled in the back.

What is point 12 point sockets, GR12 for chewing rusty bolt heads and nuts. I don't think I'll buy another old car that's spent most of its life in northern Scotland again.

Been told by The Wentworth's new owner that its engine now sounds like a diesel and is probably about to throw a piston - no wonder it used so much oil!

Just as well that I crashed it when I did and sold it as a spares car, then :)

The car will live on in some form, though, as it's not quite as bent as the car it was supposed to provide spares for, so it will probably receive the latter car's engine, gearbox and superior ancillary parts in due course ;)

By Christ, I'd have thought the best place to take that Vito was the nearest metal yard.

Or put it on Gumtree and say 'typical Mercedes reliability/these vans never go wrong/German build quality/ideal camper' as most of them seem to be advertised as.

Dropped the Santa Fe with my mate to look at the transfer box which looks like its foocked.

Not heard from him in two days. He better not have bridged it  :-D

Local farmfoods have ten litres of veg at £9.95, not a huge saving on pump prices but maybe worth a nosy.

Agreed the sale of my C2, so should receive a much needed cash injection in the next day or two.

Also negotiated a deal with the Fiat Panda 4x4 my brother in law and I were to be working on. He cant be arsed with it and I cant be arsed with him so I am buying out his half and moving it to my garage. Should get some progress on it finally.

Talking of satans other infernal invention, that being the electric parking brake i happened upon a link to Toyota GB's website, for the new (read mildly facelifted) Avensis is due to be unveiled next month...which is going to gain BMW Diesels, presumably with the timing chain of cheese.

So being the impertinent twat i am i asked if there might be a return to sanity in the form of a proper handbrake to be found in the new model....question joined the moderation queue...later i looked it was no longer in moderation and nowhere to be seen at all, no acknowledgement, zilch...think we can assume satans parking brake is staying

The reason i have a big problem with it, is not just that it ruins a bloody good modern car, if thats not heresy, but it's a bloody silly little button hidden in the dash...and it works backwards, you push it to apply the brake and pull it to release.

Now what fuckin half wit came up with that bollocks.

Dare say i'm banned from Yota GB now.

Old bill had set up shop opposite work today pulling over uninsured drivers.  Within about an hour or so they'd nabbed a barried Mk4 Astra and a barried MG ZR.  Both got the luminous yellow stickers of shame before being carted away by recovery trucks.

Must be getting near the end of the tax year then...

I've been chatting to the owner of this 1977 Volvo 244 Jubilee. http://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/1977-volvo-244dl-jubilee-mot-d/1101997849

He's bringing it down to my car meet on Sunday so that i can look at it, He's been offered £350 by some banger racers but doesn't want that to happen but that's the only offer he's had, he was hoping for around £750 but he did say that he'd take a offer so i was thinking of hitting hard at £500.

Am i going mental? Do i really need a ratty 244 project for the summer?. I'm a really sucker for the underdog and saving shiters.

Buy it. Saving it from the track and gives him more money and the knowledge it may live to fight another day

Be a hero. Buy a ratty Volvo. You can always flog it again. Given your bodywork skills, it'll look super in no time and be worth vast* amounts afterwards.

I really like the look of that, at 500 thats a decent buy. Suppose it depends if its cosmetics or more that it needs.

£500 would be ok, He says it owes him £1500, yeah right. I'll take a look and have a think, I fancy a little project for the summer and if it's solid it could be a good base, It's just not quite what i was after.
