looking at the NEXT trip to nz (yeah i know)

instead of hiring which is $$$$$$$$

thinking ^^^^^

the 350 they dont sell here (which might be a clusterfuck already)

is on carbs its a 17 plate with 2k on it - technically if imported would they class as second hand

also would it pass euro3-4 whatever the emissions would be

the 500 they do as its same as euro models efi leccy start etc

seeing as theyve been making them since slarti was a nipper

classic right :D

any ideas?

Vibratory. Don't try to exceed 50mph as it's a waste of time. Quite relaxing if you're not in a hurry. Never ridden one with a disc brake, front drums are a bit 'adequate'. The gear change is a bit hit and miss depending on how well made that week's gearboxes are. Peel-off chrome comes as standard.

Are you allowed to import one, I read on the Maserati forum there are load of hoops to jump through before they allow an import in, one of which was it had to be owned for a period of time before they'd consider it your car, a year sounds familiar

could you not buy something out there the sell it before you come back

that was thought of already

i was looking at what hoops id have to jump through and its a right PITA unless its summat old or worth the hassle cos rare etc

the buying thing is being looked at also :D

These are not a version of the Royal Enfield Bullet which Eichmann took over and changed a lot  but kept the branding.   I am sure you know Hitchcocks

wer THE Enfield spares dealer and have a vast supply of knowledge and parts but Watsonian were the recent importers  http://www.watsonian-squire.com/royal_enfield/ and either of these would give advice.

I've had a 350, bought it 6 months old probably 8? years ago. Kept it 9 months.

Looks the part, sounds the part. Horribly slow.

Mind you last bike before was a 1200 Harley, looked the part, sounded the part, was slightly quicker.

I got a Bantam after the Enfield, at times it felt faster.

It's like swf says, at 50 they are fine.

Guy Martin did a trip on one once, but used the 500, which is what I'd recommend.

I rented a bike in NZ some years ago (Suzuki VX800)-it cost a fortune then. Looking to go again in 2018/19 but this time will buy something when i get there and selling it off when I leave (kiwibiker.com has some good info on doing so).

Never owned a RE so can't add anything there, but the 650 Interceptor due to be on sale in June looks great.

I saw a 500 very recently, it looked brilliant. Anyhow, Mark, if you rode that Honda 650 thing for more than 1/4 mile, the R.E is going to seem like a bloody Goldwing in comparison.

Following a year old Enfield towards a junction last year, it moved into the middle of the road to turn right, but was flashing it's rear left hand indicator. 'Whats going on?' I thought. Stopped behind him and he was positioned such that I could see the front right indicator was flashing. It was a year old.

Not sure if this tale helps.

Not a fan myself, have only tried the 350 not the 500 but thought it was pretty awful. Wouldn't want to do a tour on one personally. I kind of 'Get' them but still wouldn't be my choice.

That said, I would like to own the epicly slow diesel version (about 6hp?) just for shits and giggles and being able to say 'I've got a diesel motorbike'. Anyone know how many were actually sold? I think they were originally developed for the army (as they were the only thing that wasn't diesel powered) but was rejected for being too slow/underpowered.

Diesel bike chat - you want a Hayes Diversified Technology's M1030M1.440 were sold to the US forces (and according to wikipedia the UK but I'm not sure about this). Based on a Kawasaki KLR650 it was supposed to be quite good. I think they've gone bust.
