Skizzer Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 +1 on bargain. Is that a Ferrari 308 GT4 on the drive, by the way? Good work if so - the shiter ‘s Ferrari of choice, maybe alongside the 400 GT. Dick Cheeseburger 1

BorniteIdentity Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Jesus that was fast. I was still working out how to get a lift over from Watford! Well done nonetheless. oldcars 1
eddyramrod Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Bugger, too slow as always. That's what you get for taking the dog to the vet instead of lounging around here, I suppose. That's pretty much my ideal spec for a 75, it's only short of a towbar. Ken: dibs when you're done with it?
purplebargeken Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I have no life outside of a keyboard and autoshite. It all hinges on help with collection/delivery. If that doesn't work out then I be screwed. eddyramrod 1
Six-cylinder Posted November 29, 2017 Author Posted November 29, 2017 It seems purplebargeken has nowhere to put it so it is back up for sale.
purplebargeken Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Sadly, my cunning plan had a flaw. Someone buy this before I make a parking space out of the front bit of the house.
eddyramrod Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Rover 75? Vet bills? Rover 75? Vet bills? Oh bugger. It'll have to be the vet bills. Sorry.
djimbob Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Oh my, Chris you haz a pm After the shenanigans over the last two days with my Kia Sedona, this Rover could well be it's replacement - damn thing decided the dipstick didn't want to remain in it's tube, once I thought was user error somehow, twice turned out to be most inconvenient, only needs a couple of new O rings on the didpstick, but I've kind of had enough of it's dizzler like ways of annoying me, so naturally a Rover seems to be the Shiter's most logical direct replacement The new to me Pug 405 estate is settling into the role of tool caddy, but needs a new back half exhaust and a bit of servicing to get it to start and tick over a bit more smoothly, like new plugs, leads, filters and so on, this would make a most excellent car for "best" strangeangel and eddyramrod 2
Dick Cheeseburger Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Rover 75 sharing the drive with a 308 GTB, interspersed with Visas et al. Now that's what I call eclectic. Cap duly doffed. eddyramrod 1
strangeangel Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Wait tho, the Sedona's getting the sack for a couple of new O rings on the dipstick, Dude, that's harsh!
djimbob Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I guess it is a bit harsh, but have you seen that Rover!!! it wasn't the cost of the O rings I have in my shed, it was the environmental disasters I've been clearing that really pissed me off, along with about six litres of engine oil and a couple of litres of antifreeze it needed as well, although I will concede the bugger has been brilliant for lugging shite around the place I really do miss a luxury barge with aircon and toys wot work, and a visit to Chez Chris is always a pleasure Anyway, we have conversed and I'm googling coach times and prices now, hooray for Autoshite once again Skizzer, trigger, strangeangel and 2 others 5

djimbob Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Coach ticket purchased, leaving Leeds at 9.30 on Friday, arriving at Milton Keynes 12.30, it's on!! Also got a bollocking off Lindsey for promising to check over her Magentis before she sets off the same morning to drive to Penrith for girlie weekend - passified her by showing her pics of the Rover and promising she can drive it when the Magentis finally shuffles off this mortal coil, (and by looking it over on Thursday evening instead) Anyone want a cheap Kia Sedona?? oldcars, BorniteIdentity, eddyramrod and 3 others 6
NorfolkNWeigh Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Bugger me that would have been perfect for me to find out what all the fuss is about, completely risk-free at that price. And even I have to admit, that's a handsome looking car, about 8 miles from my front door too!Seems I'm destined never to experience the 75 magic*.

djimbob Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 Well I collectioned this lovely beastie yesterday, which was rather a rollercoaster indeed, big journey on the coach from Leeds to Milton Keynes where Chris kindly picked me up in his Volvo 740 due to a complex juggling of his collection, and off to his gaff for the deal to be done I threw a bit of a whitey on the coach for the first time ever, so didn't take any pics, instead kind of dozed for three hours hoping not to upchuck and become a contender for most annoying person on the journey, and there was a bit of competition! Anyhoo, Chris watered me and gave me the tour of the motor, mentioning the blower was not as hot as he thought it should be, so we checked the coolant level in the overflow bottle, and gave it a little top up - this was plainly not enough as about a half hour into the return journey the blower was on the highest level, blasting away on auto, and all that was coming out was cold air by now. Therefore I suspected the coolant level must be somehow low, and it occurred to me the same thing was the case with my Sedona last week - overflow bottle full, but when I checked the pressure cap on the thermostat, it took a good couple of litres - same with the Rover it turns out, except it doesn't have a pressure cap that I could find in the dark - so I squeezed the top hoses on the engine which were soft as a soft thing at first - which then caused the overflow level to drop, burping air all the while, whilst topping up from a 2 litre bottle of water I purchased in the services I forgot to mention I had pulled up outside. I used nearly the full bottle, and I suspect there are more airlocks and pockets to clear when the sun is out and on the comfort of my very steep driveway which is good for this kind of operation This all seemed to make a palpable difference to the interior temperature, still not as toasty as I imagine it ought to be, but certainly enough for me to remove my emergency hat and gloves and unzip my coat for the rest of the journey First impressions of the car are very favourable, clean, tidy, drives very well, although it has nearly been round the clock twice - if I'm being picky, and sadly it is one of my things (no reflection on Chris he was too cheap on the price really and completely upfront about the car of course), the autobox "kicks" when changing up vigorously, and the car seems a bit "wallowy" - although they maybe all do that sir, as this is the first '75 I have driven - I'm comparing this to the Kia Magentis and Saab 900, and Pug 405 of the fleet in recent times - and it sits somewhere in between - of them all, the Magentis is probably the most sure-footed and sportily responsive strangely - I thought the Rover might hold that title, but so far it is the most barge-like of the lot - which I also am a fan of, so all is good. The motorway miles were eaten up with aplomb, although I did find the usual teutonic suspects seemed to take the piss rather, which surprised me as they normally give due respect to the larger cars I tend to drive - perhaps they label all 75 drivers as giffers?? Who knows what goes on in their heads! I think I really ought to resurrect my intro thread wherever it is, or start a new one with my fleet as I will have a fair few jobs which might be of interest to come I can share and request knowledge - the Rover has the ABS light on all the time, and I suspect it may be the pump unit, which I did on my Daughter's Lexus RX300 rather successfully, and I need to make sure the coolant levels are going to remain as they should be - otherwise the bugger is almost perfect, and the Missus has made insinuations she may well be interested in it when the Magentis finally succumbs to economic sense (tinworm in the subframe). The Pug 405 needs a new half an exhaust and a service (already done the oil and filter) but ticks over at cold very lumpily - maybe the exhaust change will really help, fingers crossed - and of course the French electrics playing silly beggars with the lights needs looking at before it spreads All in all, I'm rather chuffed with the current collection, and need to choose which one to move on now - odds are on the Sedona, I shall make some more observations in the next couple of weeks after sorting these little jobs. eddyramrod, clayts450, Coprolalia and 2 others 5
