There's something missing from the boot

An angle grinder isn't the traditional way to get the spare wheel out.  Talking of which, there isn't one.

Apparently I didn't take any pictures of the coolant.  It was as grim as you hope.

Oh, and despite copious electrical tape round the completely split vacuum hose it still stalls coming up to junctions.  Could still be ICV, but it idles fine otherwise.  Perhaps fuel filter? I would guess it's never been changed.

After all of that, the clutch then slipped for me.. though I couldn't reproduce it.  Hmmm.

New owner is still pretty pleased with it, which is good.  And despite 13 year old tyres it handles really well and pulls nearly as well as my 205.

205 managed the 2 hours each way no bother at all, at an indicated 90, at least until the Barnard Castle turn off.  I knocked 15 minutes off the Google maps ETA, which I was pretty impressed by.  It's an absolute joy to keep a decent pace along the Tees valley and then over the top at Langdon Beck, great steering, good lights, adequate brakes, and a beautifully revving engine.

Thanks to @task for rocking up and helping, by which I mean doing all the fucking work.

It was a proper team effort! 😍

Was good to catchup with you guys and gave me an excuse to give the leisure batteries a good  charge in the van.

Both the pugs look like nice tidy motors

Oh, the stalling on the red 206 was cured with a cheap AliExpress ICV, and the coolant level appears to be remaining static.   Not sure about the terrible glugging noises in the heater matrix though.

Soaking the 12v socket in diet coke did the trick too.

Inca: wheel bearing, TRE, gearbox oil change

GR: driveshaft, TRE, gearbox oil change.

I also did some hoovering and sticker removals whilst I wasn't able to be otherwise useful.

  • 2 weeks later...

In other news, the ex Jim Bell 205GR failed a test on one drum brake and high CO.

The carb has been tweaked, the drum stripped, fettled numerous times, and a new handbrake cable put on.  Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

205 failed a test last week - a hopeless drum on one side despite looking like new parts, and excessive CO.  Neither of which I'm likely to be able to resolve myself.

Here's the drum being stripped down for not the first time.

Afterwards Jimbob was happy with the drum but not with the handbrake cable, so one side was replaced yesterday, and we have a result.

WIN.  Looking forward to it!

In today's episode, I used the 406 for the school run.

It's quite nice actually.

It has stupid wheels and needs some work, but is a hoot and can nearly keep up with the 206 in a straight line.  No chance on the corners at the minute mind!

Superb photoing skilz in this thread.

We will be swapping the Saab floppytop over with the peugeot-of-last-resort at the end of the month. They get six months tax each a year and spend the rest of the time in the barn. I will take pictures if I remember.

On one of my visits to Scotland I formed the opinion that Scotland was designed by God with the intention of making a killing in Kodak shares. As you can tell that was a while ago.
