Sold For sale or roffle: Alfa 156 2.4JTD sportwagon MOT June 18

Keen observers will recall I did a half hearted for sale thread for this a month or 2 ago asking for £500 with a few bits needing doing (wheel bearing, ARB bushes)

 

Because I'm nice I've now fixed these things and the price is still £500.

 

2001/51 Alfa 156 sportwagon

2.4JTD engine, 140hp

Something like 208k miles

MOT 29th June 2018 (FJ51CGO for the MOT history crew)

(Non-working) aircon - needs a regas M8

Lusso 16 inch alloys with pretty much new Kumho ecsta something tyres

 

Basically I got this with no MOT, it failed on mucho rust to o/s sill and floorpan and a few other bits. 

I welded it up and did a few other bits (4 new tyres, 2 lower wishbones, 1 upper wishbone, a CV boot, arb bushes, a wheel bearing, probably more) and it's now pretty much all sorted. 

 

Sadly Footman James want an excessive amount to renew the classic policy it's on and I can't get a quote I will pay from anywhere else, so in the traditional fashion, having fixed everything, I'm now looking to move it on for a moderate loss. 

 

Cosmetically it's got a few issues, mainly the arches which I've touched up where they were starting to bubble, there a hole in one front wing (bolt on panel), but it drives spot on and the suspension has NO NOCKS OR BANGS M8 which is pretty rare for one of these. Has got an oil leak underneath which I think is the driveshaft seals, the parts are included, just didn't get chance to do it.

 

Will consider roffle @ £8 per ticket (2 for £15) or cash £500ish, sorry no swaps/px as this is part of a (actual) fleet reduction exercise.

 

Location Huddersfield, West Yorks, can collect from train or bus stations, or Manchester or Leeds/Bradford international airstrips.

I know right? It's a lovely looking thing IMO and the interior is in pretty amazing condition for the mileage.

 

I do love driving it but it's not big enough to be my only car, so it's got to go.

Driveshaft seal most likely as are common on these after mileage and many years.  Standard fare to do when box off to do clutch

 

 

I've been stung too!  Footman James renewal came through yesterday morning.  It's gone up from £165 to £220!

And I thought it had been going so well.

Mine is worse, I originally paid something like £140 a year for a classic policy with FJ, and it didn't seem to matter what car as long as over 20 years old. 

 

Then I had my Subaru stolen and they had to buy me a new one, renewal after that was £400 or so.

 

I swapped to the Alfa mid term and had to pay about £100 extra, the renewal is over £600, clearly they just don't want the business.

I've just added the Saab floppytop to my FJ insurance for the DS for £65 for over half a year before next renewal. I considered this to be bargainous as Lancaster wanted nigh on £300 to renew the Saab which is sorned for 6 months of the year.

 

Good luck with the sale of the Alfa, would have been tempted but I already have a post millenium car.

Just been on a longish drive in this today for the first time after doing the arb bushes and whatnot. 

 

The ABS light is on - I've read the code and it's for front left wheel sensor. This was replaced as I swapped over the strut for a s/h one because I managed to shear off a wheel bolt, so it will definitely be the sensor. 

 

Also after bragging about the knock free suspension there is actually a small knock over bumps, must be ARB related, doesn't affect driving, just an annoyance.

 

 

 

Therefore: PRICE DROP! £400 cash or roffle tickets £7 each 2 for £12.

Mine hardly ever squeaks.  I think that is down to it being screwed together in a February.

I had it on a FJ classic policy but they've bumped up the price (mostly due to me making a claim, how dare I) so a ring round the usual suspects may leave you please surprised.

 

FJ will allow Alfas at 15 years old, may also be the case with PB, Lancaster, etc?

I am with FJ at the moment so will give them a ring and see what they say, if agreeable I will have a pair of tickets.

I did check - I got a quote off FJ's website for just under £300. The best price I could get on a standard modern policy was £500 if I moved my ten years no claims over, £900 if not.

 

(NB - my insurance has gone completely mental since I moved half a mile up the road, and I'm bitter about it)

My issue with FJ is mainly that they're bitter about buying me a new Subaru last year and trying to claw it back, other people should be able to get more reasonable quotes for this with them on a classic policy.
