WCPGW? - Citroen C3 or Fix Rover? Edit - Now given up.

A Ka is honestly a good bet, just get one with the longest MOT possible as it will most likely fail on rust on the future.

Their very strong mechanically and are a cinch to work on, tons of them scrapped as well, in fact I've got two to get rid of now, 54/57 plates, both rusty, but I started one up after sitting over winter for 5 months on the same battery, fitted instantly and sounded like a Swiss watch, perfect cheap motoring.

There's a Toledo on here for £300 though that would be an ace buy.

Damn glad I read this, was looking at a 1.4 HDI auto C3 going for under a grand should my Micra fall flat on it's face with the MOT....

1.4 HDi is an utter pig to work on. Goes a bit better than the petrols but still woefully built, uncomfortable etc.

What does WBOD stand for please

Wobbler Buys Old Datsuns

Kas are absolute dog shit on toast, difficult to think of a worse car, tbh.

The 1.4HDi isn't a bad thing when it's running right, but that seems something of a lottery to be honest.

Swap you the Golf for the Rover ;)

I'm guessing that the Golf would mean a higher insurance cost, which isn't an option at the moment.

Wifey had a wee c3. Awesome wee car and we both quite liked it. Nothing really went wrong even though it was the 1.4 hdi with 140k on it

Also - credit card suggests trader but skint suggests very cheap - buying very cheap cars from traders is rarely a good idea

My CC is linked to PayPal, so private sale is doable.

I kinda need the money available on the credit card for next month's bills and fuel, due to work being a bit sparse lately.

I'll figure it all out, I'm just not used to being as tight for funds as this.

I have a couple of days off this week, so I may dismantle the Rover and attempt the CV joint. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I've decided against the C3, and I can't bring myself to buy any modern Ford, so perhaps this will have a Rover shaped ending after all.

Although...... There is an almost identical R8 near me for £295...

I've got the Golf on classic insurance with either Footman James or PBIS for not a huge amount.

Even Fusion > C3, according to all accounts.

Also, I repeat the pearl of wisdom someone wrote on here once, 'the cheapest car is the one you already own'

Everything > C3. They're made of bloody stale Lego.

Wife loves hers, even though the sumps are porous and leak oil over the place. Even after I've replaced it there's still an oil leak to sort out.

Not my cup of tea but there's plenty in scrap yards for parts, I'm almost on first name terms with my local one.

Already got it.

I'm going to fix the Rover.

If anyone wants to drop by and help / point and laugh / drink tea tomorrow, feel free.

I'd put my postcode up, but that's not very wise.

Drop me a text on oh seven four one five

Seven one eight oh three oh

Or holler on Facebook, I'm Alan Snowdon

If I hadn't booked an osteopathy appt for tomorrow I would have happily popped over to help on the Rover.

I can't do it.

I'm out of breath, having anxiety attacks, and couldn't get the ball joint split.

I'm going to give up I'm afraid. I just can't do car repairs anymore. My health isn't what it used to be.

Has no one turned up? Can it wait until the weekend? possibly more people might be about, or someone knows the easy way to split a balljoint.

Have a cuppa, and go back to it in half an hour and see if it decides to work

Posted

Easy way to split a balljoint? Don't try to use a balljoint splitter, hit the SIDE of the taper collar with the largest hammer you can find. (NB, not the exposed thread, the side of the casting. The shock of the hammer blow should crack it from the taper.)

Don't push yourself. Edit the title of the post to wanted and say which county you're in, and then people local to you might come forward.

Take care.

Of course nobody has turned up, I don't have real friends, just Internet buddies who live miles away.

I'm just not cut out for car stuff any more.

How much is a garage going to charge? If you're brassic, happy to chip in a few quid to get you mobile if others are..

And I don't really have the proper tools.

I used to have help, but I don't have that friend anymore.

I have my little boy at weekends, so that rules that out. If I had a permanent job, I'd just go get a car on sub-prime finance!

Car is working, just clicking loads. CV boot is fucked.
