Did a quick fleet pic for posterity this weekend as it’s all change more or less next week....

Also been drying out the CLK as although I’ve sorted the cabin heater rainwater leak, it had been leaking for some time, as evidenced by the fucked heater blower. Although the interior carpets seemed dry, pulling them up revealed a pond and waterlogged backing foam. All sorted Just in time as I’m taking it up to the nec classic car thing tomorrow and collecting a few e bay purchases en route.

Walked a different route to the park with the kids; little did I know a Plymouth registered Rover P6 has been slowly decaying just a few streets away.....

umm 5pm if it wasn’t broken. Live collectioning. Firing up the Crusty coupe (blowing manifold for the full on banger effect) an we are off....

Ooooo can we guess the malfunction?

4 now to guess with a couple of clues. Perhaps I should have cycled out to the new car and avoided electrical shenanigins? A quick pull over and flick of the ignition resets most of it.

Hope the new merc is less flakey

That looks like I need to eat my words.

Looks stunning.

^ it’s not bad, but not perfect. Worst bits are the front wings (at least they bolt off) both have been repaired (not v well look at how it meets the bumper!) and one has been driven into something.

Just realised it looks like the corner of the front bumper has been taped back on.

As Merc front wings go, that should be described as well above average.

For £250 you really cannot go wrong with that, dodgy wing alignment or not.

Indeed. A new, painted wing will probably cost more than the car. Yes, you can try and find a decent second-hand one, but just like the CLKs, they all rot in the same places.

Alas, that’s the reality of banger mercs.

Full locked the front wheels and the front coil spring cups seem good, although I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve power washed the arches and looked carefully around the seam sealant.

I think you've done amazingly well for £250 even it it only gets to the next MOT. providing it's still got some MOT.

4 weeks!

At least no corrosion fails or advisories on the history site. (Crosses fingers)

During my dredge of the cheapest running driving mot’d mercs I saw a lot of rust, and one car that I found oddly appealing, even though most would run a mile.....

My enquiries didn’t progress far.....

Maybe they thought I was taking the piss? Or tripping at the time? Anyway a near miss.

HMCjr first bus Trip. My last bus trip was to school on a GM BUS 1984 leyland atlantean with northern counties coachwork, shitetastic!

Bump Anyone fancy my merc camper? had a bit of interest originally, a friend said he’d have it locally but after a while that doesn’t seem to be happening.

It’s a 1998 Mercedes 208d MWB. Originally a minibus (401k!) and fully trimmed etc, it now has 6 seats and a raised double bed with large storage under, Down as a motor caravan on the v5

It’s pretty tidy for an old sprinter - underneath is good but the corners of the door bottoms, bits around the front screen and a couple of the wheel arches are rusty, zoom in on the pics.

It has a non turbo 2.3 om601- about 70 something bhp and it is SLOW. I maxed it at 75 mph which is it’s geared maximum reading a brochure. I must say I’ve got used to it and once it’s wound up it’s not so bad with the benefit of simplicity and bombproofness compared to the CDI generation of sprinter power units. Seems to have an off beat idle when hot but that might be an engine mount? Done 600 miles in it over a few weeks and it’s a reliable old slogger that is on the button. The brakes clutch and gearchange are good. Factory air con which doesn’t work. A remote heater for the rear which is plumbed into the cooling system- it’s fan doesn’t work. It’s pretty basic as a camper with the raised bed, a stowable rail mounted table and a solar panel charged separate battery with inverter and normal 3 pin domestic plug/usb point and an opening skylight.

MOT to September if memory serves- for the purposes of a swap I’d be happy with a straight swap for something worth 500-1000.post-4673-0-75876100-1554620226_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-01688700-1554620393_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-90368200-1554620313_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-74360000-1554620341_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-25754600-1554620374_thumb.jpegpost-4673-0-25754600-1554620374_thumb.jpeg
