Our friends in Scotoshite meet on the last Wednesday of the month, somewhere deep in the Central Rust Belt between Glesca and Embra, to celebrate the ancient tradition of 'scraningtons' and generally chat shit about buses, trains, old motors, etc.  Mister FPB7 and I have been up before and a jolly good time was had by all.

A loose proposal, for your consideration: drive up to final 2017 meeting on 29th November, eat/drink/be merry/chat shit in SCTSH, stay in cheapish hotel, drive home (perhaps via some point of interest).

Who's up?

I was chatting with FPB7 about this a few weeks back. I will be up for it. I will need to find a dog friendly hotel though if I bring the dogs or if not I should be able to find someone to look after them for a day or two.

Can we go via the big red railway bridge? I have never seen it person yet :(

The 2Savvy Memorial Bridge near Linwood?

If you're meaning the Forth Rail Bridge, it's bloody hard to miss. In fact, there's the new swishy road bridge to see too, it's a strange creature. You can't get close to the rail bridge anymore, but viewing it from the jetty at South Queensferry or from the car park of Deep Sea World in North Queensferry is recommended. Although this weekend past, there were charity walks going over the top of its spans! £35 entry I understand... cheap at the price.

I'll check if the old Road Bridge walkways are open.

Yeah I was very tempted by this but had other things going on. I am part of a consultation project where they are eventually planning to open a visitors center at the bridge and run more regular walks over the top which will be cool.

That will be good, it's long overdue. The visitor centre at least, span walks optional. It's just a pity the footings are fenced off, I used to love putting my ear to the iron as a train went over. A truly unique sound!

Youse are more than welcome to come and be talked at by the way! As always...

Heading to Scotland for dinner is definitely appealing. I'll have to see how I'm fixed for time.

A bumper final session would be good, should be interesting figuring out how many seat are needed!

Excellent, might go for a walk if the weather holds. Must be weird with no traffic on it.

The wierd thing is while they're busy redoing the roads you actually cycle up the carriageway in the fast lane as you approach the bridge!

If you're going across the new bridge, keep an eye out for the GPS system antennae/domes on the bridge's windshields - I have at one time or another handled each one of them during testing last year.

I'll be making the trip tomorrow. Going to collect the 740 after having a wheen of work done to it at Ron Sealey's in Cowdenbeath

This is shaping up to be busy!

I shall also be crossing the bridge tomorrow for the meet.

Through the wastelands of Cumbria on an ice cold November morning sounds like a bloody daft good idea.

Do they have beer up there?

If yes, I'll make arrangements.

Why does a bridge need GPS?

Yes.

Why does a bridge need GPS?

To monitor its movement according to loads, windspeeds, temperature (the cables supporting it expand and contract depending on temperature) that sort of thing.

Can six of us go in the LTD?  :D

I like the idea (and I'm sure CMS will want to see my 740), will have to see how funds are closer to the time.

So where exactly is this?

I'd be tempted to drive down earlier in the afternoon beforehand, because driving that distance, in the dark, in November, if I don't absolutely have to, is not the most appealing idea.

Easily. But even divided by six the fuel bill would be hilarious.

I'm up for that particular larf...  B)
