That's cash back!  Better than finding small change under the back seat.

Well its paying for the original wheels to go back on with good tyres!

PS: Photos - I cant see a flame trap etc? Anyone else see it in photos?

looks like its been re-plumbed to me !!

by the way check out the vac  pipe to the brake servo , if its old or even looks it , replace it , they get hot in traffic and collapse cutting off the supply to the servo

there is a BMW driver some where who swears I tried to kill him with a fully laden brick when he pulled out in front of me , and I found I had 2 tons of car and junk travelling at speed after leaving a traffic hold up ... and no brakes !!!!!

I may have a leaking carb gasket everything does look a bit black and full of gunk in that area. Is that gasket between the top where the air box sits on and the carb itself?

there are 2 gaskets , one either side of the black heat insulator .....

its not the flattest thing and may need a bit of sorting out

found this in my archives from the past

£140 smackers all in.

Steering lighter, looks better too!

Pics man!!

It looks to me like your flame trap has been removed by someone and in its place is a length of rubber hose. You can get a kit with the required pieces in off eBay.

I'll add pics later! Havent got any yet! Debating whether to put the Volvo Trims on? I quite like the Steelies without the trims lol. Looks badass lol.

It does looks as though someone has re-plumbed it. Will I need to make changes? if it aint there it can't clog up?

I'd use the trims personally, but it's your car! Can't beat a bit of shiny!

It shouldn't cause any real problems without the flame trap but you might find you get a bit of oily grunge getting past back into the intake. The flame trap does prevent the majority of the sludge and crap getting through, hence why they block.

I've pulled most of the bulbs and they look fine.

Hmmmmm shes been thirsty, When I picked her up I put 60 (114.11 at asda) quid of fuel in, just topped up for a long trip tomorrow, £25.42.

Of course I dont exactly know how many litres I've used. No fuel gauge!!

I wonder if the new wheels and rear silencer will make a bit of an improvement.

Fuel gauge in mine is part-time, and even when it's working it's 'purely advisory' (© rml2345). I fill up about 300 miles or whenever it starts to stutter, and it varies from 50-60 litres.

Hope that helps...:D

I used to push for 40mpg out of the 240 on a run to London and back , it did involve leaving ALL the rear seats at home ( a lot of weight !! ) , tyres up to max pressure and all the junk chuked out ...  and could it shift , only down side was the rear end was so light it banged over speed bumps !

our most epic adventure was a trip to Southend on Sea and back complete with dodgy alternator , which would pack up on the motorway , the engine would go all funny and we would have to pull in at a services and give the alternator a thump !!  , it would kick in and off we would go !

I think I need to be braver lol, no red light on fuel gauge either as it doesn't work lol

40 mpg on a 240 isnt bad going!

Mine tends to average around 26mpg. That's just driving around covering a bit of everything roads wise. So if I baby it on a run, say 60mph and not hooning it around it'd likely be a good bit better but one of these won't ever be considered economical!

Mines an auto too which obviously will bring the figure down a bit more.

There's a thread on the VOC forum where someone made an LED style fuel gauge retro fitted into the original gauge. Depending on how much fuel was left made more or less LED's illuminate. Of course that assumes your sender etc is still working. Most of the time it's the gauge though.
