Theoreticals: recommend me a quirky supermini

Recommended Posts

I love me a wee car, me.  So far as I can remember I've had or driven:-

Metro

Fiat 126

Imp

Uno

Panda

Chevette

Polo estate, mk2

Pug 106

Lancia Y10

Daihatsu Sirion

Perodua Nippa

Citroen AX

Oh, and a Yaris.

I'd also love a Mini Clubman estate, but it's really the only BMC Mini I fancy.

What would you recommend me that's not on the list?

Cinquecento/Seicento Sporting.

Thanks for the reminder!  I drove Mrs Krujoe's Seicento Sporting last year, it was fine!

Panda?

RTFOP - been there, done that.

As for an Alfa 147, isn't it a bit on the big side?

Daihatsu Charade, the 3-pot models from the 80s

Oh, fuck, YES! I drove my uncle's German registered one on private land (seriously) in 1988! I'd forgotten about it!

Edit: it turned up in the scrappy in South Street in Glasgow, I still have the front foglight it was sporting!

Yugo. The small one.

Skoda Favorit. Properly tough little car.

Found it!  This is the one I had in 1989-90.  They are so much fun, way more than they should be.

^^^^^I can remember one that lived around here at the same time in pale yellow with a wooden home made spoiler

That's like the Kia Pride estate in Tayne's recent post in the best spots thread!

Hmmm, Junkman, you seem to have homed in on my rear-engine fetish: so why the minger in the green dress...?

Smart Roadster. Never did get a chance to let you have a go in mine. It's just reminded me that. :?

Nae probs: I was on my notice period for my job down there anyway! I'll just have to test one up here.

Because it's rear engined and wears a super mini.

I can see the supermini bit, but I disagree with the rear-engined bit: I'd expect the rear arches to be more flared.

Oooh, I looked at buying an S-reg Renault 5 21 years ago, but it had no MOT, and the Frenchman selling it was asking for £350!!! I saw it in a scrappy (Carberry's at Dalreoch) a month later, I hope he got a good deal...

Autobianchi A112, undoubtedly the first supermini. There's bound to be one floating about somewhere.

Renault Supercinq, for the distinctive engine clatter if nothing else.

And how has the mighty Chevwoo Matiz escaped mention thus far?

And if you're looking for shite superminis, you could do no better than a rehashed Fiat with secondhand styling and no column stalks, built by Spaniards who had to pay Porsche royalties in order to crow about their involvement in the car's development.
