The want/need is getting stronger! Volvo's

FIL had a dark blue Volvo 240GL, 2.3 Saloon with Auto.

Have loved them ever since I drove his. The want is strong for an estate version, maybe not a 240.

I like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-940-SE-Estate-2-3L-Automatic-/263212873047?hash=item3d48b5b557:g:8NYAAOSwEotZvkIM

I like the above, Auto, Big enough engine and I like the interior.

What would one be like to live with?

Nice that, only caveat is I'd like to have a proper seatbelt in the middle seat in case I need to take little ones, but not essential.

2.3 seems to be the engine of choice.

Six - I presume you get that on Classic Insurance?

I don't see why not it is 27 years old.

I believe the centre seat belt is just a lap belt.

They're brilliant cars, I really can't say that enough!

Estates are far more practical than saloons but both are great cars. The old RWD ones I'd say try to go for the 2.3 as it just feels better in such big cars. Autos are superb too!

I've used my estate for dragging a car trailer around and had it loaded up with wood and bags of concrete recently too and it never complained once, prior to that it spent two years rotting on a driveway so they are tough old cars and can take a lot.

My 740 is a few years older than 6 cylinders one above and classic insurance is no problem.

They aren't the quickest cars ever and handling isn't exactly their thing either but who gives a shit about stuff like that anyway. They'll do long distance driving and motorway speeds easily and I'd trust mine to go anywhere.

One criticism however is the mpg isn't great! But I don't care about that!

HA MPG cant be any worse than the Rover.

Not too fussed about speed/handling as I wallow about everywhere anyway - old Rover isnt exactly speedy either lol.

Yeah I do want one! Now, decisions. Rover....Keep/Sell/Swap!!

Six: Not too fussed as only one who likes sitting in the middle is my eldest daughter so not too much of a problem really :)

If I sell the Rover nows a good time, Full MOT and a full tank of Morrison's finest.

Definitely goes on classic. I'd have mine on with Peter James but they wouldn't let an under 25 insure something of that high cylinder capacity, they told me.

Whoever wrote their rules clearly doesn't understand power to weight ratios.

Definitely getting more and more Volvo interested now I've got a leatheriffic automatic estate...

FJ would probably cover it.

I'm hankering after another 240 estate,I don't really need one at the moment, but they seem to be getting harder to find and I don't want to leave it too late

I have a friend with a very nice 240 Torslanda estate and he mentioned to me he will keep it for the winter and sell it early next year.

Keep me in mind, I already have the dog guard for one

So Mr Six out of curiosity how much were you thinking for the 960 estate?

Scotoshite Volvo Massiv (SVM Industries S.A) Official Guidlines for Buying a Volvo Estate :

Get a Belgian built 700 series.

---ENDS---

Additional:

2.3 is favoured over the 2.0

If going for an automatic, get a 2.3. You need the extra power for the ridiculously long gears and with the 2.3 you get the ZF autobox. The 2.0 got the Aisin Warner autobox. ZF is betterer.

Mr 6... would you be willing to drive it to Hull and drive my Rover back to your  HQ ?

Bonus points for not needing to put fuel in it has over half a tank in :)

OK in all seriousness, going to put the Rover up for swaps/sale.

Anybody want to trade me a Volvo for it before she goes on ebay or something?

To be fair would I take a 240 Saloon, yes... the 2.3 Auto would be the preference.
