Sad to hear this - as mentioned above, oldford had a wonderfully dry sense of humour and some great stories.

Today was Johns funeral, I arranged a number of his friends to bring their classics along and I found a place for us to meet and wait for the hearse to go past.

24 classic cars in a convoy on the A14 and over the Orwell bridge was a sight to see, we caused quite a stir. Eventually we arrived at the cemetery for his cremation.

He arrived in the back of a FX4 taxi.

The service was perfect and very John, not at all religious and very car related. His best friend and his brother in law read out some old stories about him and his cars and it was all very nice.

When we came out some of the family members had stuck Ford badges on all the non Ford's! That was something that he would have done and raised many a laugh!

Afterwards we all travelled to a pun in Shotley for his wake and a mini car show in his honour.

There some nice cars there, some people had even travelled down from Manchester for the day in their Cortina estate and a Volvo 144!

The Ford Gaxille came from Cambridge and used £100 in petrol!

I had a sit in that too but couldn't see over the steering wheel. This was eye view!

Hopefully we gave him a good send off. I think he would have thoroughly enjoyed himself if he was there, which I guess he was in spirit.

RIP John

Such lovely cars, especially the Cortinas. Pity that they couldn't have been together in happier circumstances.

RIP John.

That is about the best send off a car nut could ever wish for.

What will become of Johns cars? Hopefully they'll be looked after as they should be.

I'd love a send off like that myself, his best mate Rich is having the Cortina but I don't know what happening to the Sierra yet

Looks like an excellent send-off.  I couldn't get time off work unfortunately or I would have liked to have come.  RIP John.

What a lovely send off, and very moving seeing his Sierra and Cortina taking pride of place. I hope they both go to good homes.

What a fantastic send off, well done to all involved, i especially like the small touch of improving the non fords with a ford badge.
