Gaydon BMC / Leyland Day

Had a fantastic day today at Garden - MUCH better turnout than last year. Really fab day. Loads of different stuff and a ton of daily drivers not just garage queens which was really nice to see. Although there was some knob banging on about some allegro which "shouldn't" have had a quartic steering wheel - get a life.

Got there nice and early at 9:30 and parked up with some other 75s... Was a bit worried that mine would stand out as being not up to scratch body work wise, but I needn't have worried, it blended in lovely:

Here's a lovely MK1 Rover 800 which just looks wonderfully bargy and smart:

Almost 237k miles on this one!

And this looks as good as any modern car. Really, really smart!

This coupe was an absolute stunner, and the owner was clearly very proud of it. I'd love one of these if the door pins weren't in the middle of the sodding door card!

There weren't may R8s there today, but this one was doing them proud:

And this tourer was mint. Properly nice.

Montego and Maestro contingent was very healthy today. Maestros don't interest me, so here's a brown montego saloon:

Dad used to have a Countryman, but ours was petrol

And this won best 80s car 2nd place I think

Hyacinth was around somewhere

This is just mega

Who DOESN'T need a green SD1?

A couple of sprints

This princess just looks so right...

94e42f38db.jpg

And in general a really nice selection of Princessi

But for me this was the star of the show. I don't know if it's an original colour, but it was stunning in the flesh...

Anyone else there today?

I was there on the Maxi club stand with YDU. Plenty of nice stuff and a surprising abundance of some supposedly rare types but also some that were conspicuous by their absence (Acclaim, Ital, Ambassador). I'll try to add some photos tomorrow.

No pictures of MGBs? I am disappointed. :D

Sorry I feel I have let you down now, there were at least three.

That 75 was stunning, its one of only 5 i think in Jubilee. I think i may have been parked next to you and spoke for a wee while. Was your the lovely 2.0 "y" plate? I had the seafrost one next with the 75 show plate on the front. If it was you it was great to talk, if it wasnt you it was was still great to talk to whoever i did speak to

That was me!

I did wonder if it was you, but I couldn't find a pic of your car on here showing the reg plate to confirm or not!

Apologies for my generally awkward demeanour / conversation making ability! Your car looked really great & was nice we had a row of 75s lined up at the front :)

No apologies required, it was a pleasure to speak with you. We did have a nice line up of cars. Your car was really nice. Super day all in. Some of the stuff in the collection centre was great to see.

Looks like a great day.

Would have loved to see the Allegro that 'knobo' reckons shouldn't have been Quartz Square 'ish'.

I had to look twice at the Pre-Production Wolseley 18-22 aka Princess.  Didn't the production models have the single piece headlamp ?

Posted

Wolseley Six were all dual headlamps, Austin and Morris varied: I think it was a spec thing, posher versions got the trapezoidal headlamps. (Which were bloody bright)

Posted

Wolseley and Morris both got dual round headlights, Austins were all trapezoidal.

Once the car was relaunched as Princess, the trapezoidal lights were for 2200 engined cars only.

So anyone buying an Austin 1800 wedge got a car which shortly afterwards looked rather more expensive than it really was!

Posted

That vinyl roof looks a fresh addition to SMG, you can see a crease in the A post

Posted

Just to confuse the issue here's SMG in a previous guise. Trapezoidal lights, flat bonnet and Wolseley badge - one of the experimental styles it had that never made it to production.

I'd have loved to see the pictures but something seems to have happened to them. Can't see them.
