Stupid Is As Stupid Does

I turned the Mingebag Mercedes estate around on my driveway to do a few paint repairs, so the driversy door is millimters away from the garage wall. Climbed out of the passenger side and locked it up.

Been a few weeks since I started it, but paintwork all done, so yesterday went to turn it around. Remote wouldn't unlock the doors as it seems the cars battery is flat. Now I can't get in-front passenger door doesnt have a keyhole. The internal "flap" on the back estate door lock is seized solid.

Anyone any idea how I can get in. Car is in "Park". Door lock buttons are flush with the door cards.

Do I just bust the lock on the rear door, or is there a better way to get in?

Junkman, Conrad and I were discussing a very similar situation on Sunday.

Any way to get underneath the front and pop the bonnet? Failing that i'd try using a small plastic/wooden wedge to open up a gap in the top of a door and then try opening with a straightened out coathanger.

jack up either the front or rear with a good trolley jack on wheels and slide it across, you might need some help to push!

I had an RAC man do this when my Laguna 1 battery got flattened by my leaving the lights on for the 43rd time and the bonnet catch was broken. Car did not have an under tray which made it easier but I was still impressed.

Jack one end of car up with a scissor jack lined up fore and aft then push car sideways off jack/repeat/repeat until you have enough clearance.

The connecting of battery charger leads to the alternator/starter motor and earth point trick is very popular for late Rover owners who have a flat battery but who have no emergency key code access....shouldn't need march charge to get the central locking going.

Either that or see if you can somehow get the bonnet open and then charge the battery

jack the car up and connect the + wire from a battery charger to the big red + wire on the starter motor and the black wire from battery charger to any part of earth on the car you can get power into car that way.

Some good suggestions here. The battery lives in the rear, by the spare wheel - and its a big bugger as I remember it.

The central locking is open/closed by a remote, but rather than "clunking" open or shut, it opens quite slowly. Not sure if it's electric or air, no if it deadlocks and I can't open it from the inside with a coat hanger.

,

I think I will spend a bit more time on the rear door lock cleaning it and trying to prise the litter flap from inside the keyhole to allow the key in. Gave up after 10 minutes this evening in the dark, so not sure I was doing any good..........

If I remember rightly it's air, there's a series of little pipes that round all around the car under the carpet.

How close is the lock to the garage wall?

Could you put an old piece of carpet on the roof, smear yourself over it like butter, then reach down and get the key in the lock?

If the battery is flat this will only open the door with the key in, lack of electricker to the pump is why it won't open on the CL.

+1 for putting leads onto the starter, they don't need to be big, you're only opening the locks, not starting it.

^^^^Exactly that. I'll try getting the back door lock lubricated, and if no luck then I'll get underneath and have a go at the starter motor method.

My CLK shat the pump, mercifully with the doors open. The pump is in the boot however which has an air release, so after a week of trying to free the boot lock I gave up and managed to release one of the folding rear seats to get shit access.

Soz, that's obvious, I wasn't thinking straight!
