Agri engineering tends to be the most ingenious

Hope you all get good weather; would love a weekend like you have planned :)

Mrs 6cyl kindly threw me the keys of that ZX so we could go into town to get food one evening at SF16.  It's rather grunty.

I think that was Daz actually!

Don't sleep with your toes outside in our field!

Funny... I distinctly remember driving it into Winslow and back for takeaways!

I was referring to the "rather grunty" statement

In other news I seem to have a pass out for this one and have access to the special tools for doing the visa head gasket if of interest? What size is the engine in it and how many gears has it?

Right. Planets are aligning and I'm going to be working in Cheshire on Saturday, so that means I'm a definite for camping. Where are we at with that? Is there still capacity within our group or do I need to ring up and make my own booking?

Posted

Yes. Yes I did. FFS. I'm having a great week! All work and no joy makes Dollywobbler just BREAK.

But, seeing as we're here, I do want to check people are going to be around on the Sunday, as Mrs DW and I are hoping to swing by on our way back from Sussex. Who is planning to be there?

Posted

I will still be around on Sunday probably until fairly late in the afternoon. If I can be bothered I need to replace a suspension strut low pressure return pipe thingy on the XM.

I only live 12 miles away so I'll be about barring anything cropping up before!

Will there be people there on Friday though?

Just had word that my holiday request for Friday the 8th has been signed off!

What time do you want me on Friday? And is car washing going on or are we sticking to oily bits? Can I bring any tools to help? Don't have anything too specialized, just general amateur spannering type stuffs

I am not sure what other time people will arrive, but I will be in and out all day and can meet you what ever time you like.

I could do with a hand to get the generator lifted into our van to take it to the field.

Posted

Pm me with a time and place! I'll pack the car and get it set up for glamping in the morning but should be done fairly early, so ready to go my late morning/lunchtime!

Red kite? Probably looking for the wildlife that was hiding in the long grass before it was mown and baled. I don't think toes are on its menu but you never can be too careful.

We really need to bottom out just what occurred with the head gasket failure, apparently these are a bit prone to warping the head if properly cooked.

That said there is a Visa in a scrappy near to where we had shitefest this year, I will post the pictures I have of it this evening.

We have a timing chain gasket here but no transfer box gasket.

Also recommend a new clutch whilst it's apart and the bush for the primary shaft as they are prone to getting shat out shortly after a clutch change!

That's my biggest concern, recalling how the Bluebird went. My plans for a swift rebuild soon evaporated once I accepted that the head did actually need some proper machine-shop attention. Guess it isn't that easy to find a recon Visa head?

I can buy some gaskets etc if there is an appetite to work on it.

I agree we might get the engine apart and find it is scrap, but at least we will know then.

I'm going to be a no again but I'll let you know if anything changes.

Posting this to register interest in future Field of Dreams shens.

We had to make a couple of gaskets that I could not find for the LNA and I still have a sheet of gasket paper.

Do you have a bush or have any idea what the part number is?

Appetite to work on it here! No actual knowledge apart from mechanical sympathy though...

Didn't John say he had the head gasket for it? We have that in stock at work if not?

I have ordered a Head gasket set and clutch kit today. What else should I order?

Could any of the shiters who plan to attend show me how to use (and ideally let me borrow) a hammer and dolly to see if I can't beat out some rear valence modification a previous owner of the Yaris inflicted? I plan to come up to see you on Saturday just for the day if thats OK?

engine strip and HG replacement sounds fun Mr-Cylinder.

Is the timing chain cover in the Head gasket set I have ordered?
