Right. Headlight, that is. Dark it is.

So let's see whether there is electrickery at the connector.

There bloody well is!

33238875308_d586641385_b.jpg

But no wiggling whatsoever makes the headlight even flicker.

So I took the connectors out of the plug and connected them directly.

And look:

So there was little else left than tightening up the connectors.

Well, that seems to have done the trick.

Until it fails again.

So we packed up and wanted to call it a day, but now the right hand bonnet catch didn't want to catch.

Some oilage was done.

40149508983_87de64a1ef_b.jpg

It didn't help.

After seventy more unsuccessful attempts to get the bonnet to catch, each time expecting a different result than the one it yielded (not very original, I know), I finally removed the screwdriver I forgot on the slam panel. Guess what happened at the very next attempt?

However, there is something which is not the best of news if I'm not mistaken.

Doing an oil change, this came out of the sump:

Shit. Bollocks. Fuck. Cock. Tits.

Yes, I'm an abusive cunt.

OMGHGF? It does look chocolatey.

I rather suspect the bottom liner seals.

Well, when I took off the air filter today, I noticed that the engine breather had become undone again. I hope that it's this that led to some water ingress. If not, then we'll find out tomorrow enroute to Eddyramrod in the usual GGG manner of solving small problems by turning them into major disasters.

Chocolate milk in the sump gives me sadface

So you don't think I should panic?

No deal, just proceed as usual.

Me drove to Iceland, around it, across it and back home with leaky seal and mayo in 504 engine. Needed new liners then , were due anyway.

Amazingly, solution A works.

A bit of a collar is required to serve as the sealing surface.

It needs a bit of smoothening and you can see the intended bolt and o ring in this pic.

Looks good.

Fits well:

Note reusage of knackered jubilee clips, a hallmark of shitism.

I do enjoy a spot of light engineering. That is a very neat and elegant repair, or should I say upgrade.

Are you available to redesign a Jaguar twin fuel tank system?

Riddle me this: where’s conelrad at these days ?

He is mainly standing around with his hands in his pockets these days.

I hope he takes them out of his pockets when he gets here!  Preferably with folding money in them so that he can take away a box of diecasts.

That sounds like a fun thing to do!

Excellent! Can you turn this:

Into somthing that works.

Yes, but a Renault has a precision engine. Not a Peugeot engine.

There is no such thing in France, they don't even have their own word for "precision" and that tells you all.

A french engine is a french engine. Ignore any indication of a malaise and it will just keep on going.

You got a point there.

We made the long journey to Eddy and actually arrived:

We checked the oil and everything looks fine:

These are some photos I papped on the way back home. They exclusively show stuff I neither made myself, nor put there.
How unoriginal.

All in all, I must say the best thing you can do with a car that shows all signs of imminent grenadisation is a 220 mile trip.

Im off down to see Mike Stokes next week, suposedly. Are there any bits you need me to ask him about?

Actually, I'd love to have an original bleed valve. I know. I'm weird.

A working cigarette lighter, please.

The ashtray insert.

A set of shims for the camshaft pulley.

The switch at (actually in) the interior lamp. It's the triangular one, not the trapezoidal one. The lamp, that is.

A rim, preferably with a decent tyre, preferably in 155SR14. I do have a TX wheel with a hopelessly incorrect sized tyre for swappage, if wanted, but it isn't in the best of conditions.

The LH upper stainless windscreen trim.

The RH bonnet 'banana' trim.

A gas pedal rubber.

The rubber sealing ring for the coolant expansion bottle.

I must stress that unfortunately I'm not a wealthy man, thus would prefer used parts when sensible.

Please note that mine is a Phase 1b, i.e. from before the 1968 makeover.

How is Mike these days? Hope his health is better. I feel I want to send my best wishes but he doesn’t know me from Adam so that would be a bit weird.

I expect I need some bits but I don’t know what, so ignore that.
