Friggin' ebay buyers

I've made the cardinal mistake of trying to help a relative by listing his their car on my ebay account.  It sold on Thursday with a Buy it Now (yes, I know), and of course the buyer hasn't been in contact either by email or phone.  Probably shouldn't have accepted the offer as they hadn't made contact before, but hey, that's just my trusting nature.

Does anyone know the best way to at least attempt to get the £17.93 selling fee back from ebay, let alone the £10 listing fee.  Not sure whether if you select 'Cancel Order' this will cancel the sale and enable a refund, or whether you should select 'Report this Buyer'.  Or how long should should be prepared to wait for them to respond; personally I think if it's not within 24 hours they're messers.

Should have done a classified ad, would have been cheaper too.

Give him 48hrs plus a couple of polite reminders, then report the dick to Ebay !

Hi, Get your relative to re-imburse you the fees until such time as you get them from ebay.  Why should you be out of pocket trying to sell his car.

Is the car anything slightly out of the ordinary as its been known on eBay for people to press the buy it now button just to get rid of the competition if they have a similar car for sale.

What's his feedback like or if you have an address then it's time for some Argos catalogues.

I had the same with a Classified ad. Offer, accept. On my way, changed my mind!

At least mine got in touch.

You are supposed to give them a couple of days, then report them, which takes another 4 days.

Eventually your payments will be re credited. But you lose 6 days hanging about.

As my buyer refused to come I just took the loss and relisted. Sold 24 hours later.

Just discovered he's advertising cars himself on ebay so will give it another day then make a phone call.  Didn't think to look at his items for sale until today!

"Yeah, i thought i could sell this for you, turns out it's more hassle than i thought so here's the car back, that'll be £20 please"

Brilliant, you ought to get a gig with Citizens Advice.

If he's selling stuff, it can't be hard to just hit BIN on all of them with a fake account can it? Obvs when he's had a few days to get in touch.

Or even go and test drive them and curl off a log in the cupholder.

It doesn't really help you now but I'm sure there is a way of making it impossible to click BIN without the buyer actually paying for it...

Or a turn working for VIZ thinking up 'top tips'.

There is - if eBay only let people with a pre-funded Paypal a/c hit BIN. Like having the funds in Escrow. But that won't help anyone wanting paying in cash.
