Excellent! Please let me know how I can get involved. Would LOVE to do something like this in the 2CV.

I think that Renner Five could be my old one - right colour, and I sold it to a bloke who wanted to use it in trials. Can't remember the registration so can't be sure, but there can't be too many 3-door red mk1 5s doing trials, surely?

The R5 is Ratdats. The Visa van was suprisingly good! There have been two clubman PCT's this year in this area (Lincolnshire), but more are planned. You have to be a member of an invited motorclub (for the motorclub I belong to Lincs Louth MC £13 a year for single, £14 for joint), event cost was £14.50, did 5 tests three times the first time and 5 tests four times on the second. It's rather good fun.Once I get the next dates I will pop them up here.

great pics would love an imp :D@ratdat nice 5

That looks so much fun - I would have thought RWD would have more advantages over FWD - Did the Metrover fare well?

Posted

Actually RWD (front engined) is a lot harder than FWD (or RWD rear engined), as it's all about traction, and with the weight over the drive wheels FWD is where is't at, from what I've seen anyway. :) RWD with wide tyres and massive overhangs aren't that good, but it put a smile on my face ever run :D

So my almost shagged Micra might actually be a contender then... Hmmm... Where can I find out more?

Do it people, it's top fun for bugger all money. Couldn't do the last one as I was utterly skint and had too much work on but I'll be doing the next one. No idea what car I'll use yet. Be funny to use the Pony pickup but I suspect it'd be utterly useless at it.Dave, how'd you get on at the last one?

Posted

What exactly is the oldy in the last pic? Looks like a Model A Ford Grille, but nothing else about it looks familiar!

Posted

Looks great fun!As a teenager I used to take my R4 through the (deserted) woods near my folks' home for fun. Always thought they should make good trials cars.

No flukie win this time!

Conditions were better, so scores were lower, but 5 long wheel base FWD's were in our class so we got spanked! I reckon I had more fun though! :D

Micra's are spot on for it, my misses slaughtered me in her Micra, she soon picked it up and had loads of fun.

R5's were out again, in turbo form this time, with a hybrid turbo and a paddle clutch we thought it might struggle, but it made it look easy! He did ding his front spoiler though; ground clearance is your friend!

Event was won by the chap who had the Model A the first time, he was out in the Ford Ka this time, and really knew what he was doing and only got a score of 2 all day out of 20 tests!

Might make a good article - let me know as Im up for it in the Micra...

Perhaps we need to start an Autoshite event??All we need is someone with a slightly hilly field...some canes & insulation tape. JOB DONE.

Posted

Sounds good! Non-shite need not apply. That said, if these events already exist, and already feature lots of shite, maybe just going to one of them is a better idea.

I don't know the legalities of it, but about £5 of the event fee goes to the MSA for insurance, thats also why you have to be a member of a motorclub as they are run under Clubsport permits from the MSA. I guess it's incase the worse happens, your car won't be insured, but the person you run over will be etc. There are a few local motor clubs who are going to get more PCT's sorted this year, the more people who enter the more the events will be held.

Superb, this is one of these things you read about, but never can really find out about, yes I would like to play

Get in contact with your local motorclubs and see what they are doing. My geography is a bit pants, but the Chelmsford Motor Club is a fantastic and not far from you (possibly  ), they are very active putting on lots of clubmans events.Next event for our club it Slot car racing! :D Speaking of which Eddie did you get my PM??

I did a Chelmsford event earlier in the year. Great fun! Rally driving in the 2CV. Sadly, it rained all day pretty much (I salute all the brave marshalls!) but we had a real hoot.We didn't come last either - beating a VW Golf amongst other things! Not bad considering we got lost at one point. That involved thrashing around a track constructed on an airfield. Lots of surface variety and lots of tight turns - not ideal for a 2CV.Might have to sign up with them...
