Field bangers. (no hiab/rigger boot comments included)

Looks like a great way to finish off a shitter and a good laugh. I don't object to banger racing when it's stuff like this, and field bangers seems to have gone back to banger racing from 30-40 years ago. Opinions?

I have watched several of these videos on YouTube.

All the extensive roll cages and other safety equipment in proper banger racers are of course completely unnecessary.

You can take a horse to water........

I'm impressed the little Matiz was still alive and kicking at the end. How is field bangers even a thing though, what with H&S all over any kind of motorsport?

Paging HairyMel to the beige forum :)

From what I know there are some rules, no drivers door hits or following in

And who is going to stop you?

It's allowed, in the same way that I'm allowed to dangle my scrotum into a tank of lobsters.

I would think when it gets a four hour show on Eurosport, they'll have to look at the safety aspect.

Privately owned field, lots of privately owned vehicles, with people who have chosen freely to drive into each other.

No laws being broken.

Falls foul of the criminal justice bill prohibiting gatherings of more than a couple of vehicles on private land without permission from the police so technically not allowed. As long as no one brings a PA system or starts charging admission I would hope people could keep their noses out

bah Dodgerover - you have made me spend more of my sunday morning looking at legislation than i would like.

criminal justice bill seems to hinge on 'disturbing music played through the night' and or 'tresspass' neither of which are occurring.

i am sure there are many other liabilities for the organisers/landowners that are difficult to mitigate against, but there is nothing i can see that would legally stop people from twatting about in cars in a field.

I think it's probably one of those situations where nobody batters an eyelid, it's all a bit of fun until somebody gets seriously hurt and then turns into Mr Compensation Cunt.

Which inevitably will be the bellend who always drives like a Twat and gives it the billy big guns.

Would definitely have a go of it though!

Very few farmers will let things like this happen these days as subsidies will be withdrawn if found to be using fields for other purposes,

Our club has trouble finding fields for autocross due to this.

Not sure, I remember it causing all sorts of grief when trying to sort motorcycle trials on private land, in theory you could/ can be charged with damage to the land itself if nothing else will stick...

anyway field bangers is a bloody good laugh :-D

'proper' banger racing appears to be much too expensive and taken a bit too seriously by the drivers, the bondsworth event is a bit of fun a couple of times a year.

the idea is you turn up in something unsuitable and drive round in circles all day.

rules are nudge and spin (ie dont smash fuck out of each other)

the idea is everyone gets to race all day and generally all the drivers are respectful of that.

the general layout of the day is :-

heats are run until everyone has had 3 races and the top 10 drivers run in the final.

after that there is a ladies only race (girls race in the normal races but there is a special one just for the wives/girlfriends who are shit  )

lunch and then presentations of the home made trophies

then fun races (usually 10 or so with small prizes for the winners)

when people look a bit bored/the cars are starting to be a bit smashed up/its nearly hometime they run a DD (destruction derby) where anyone who wants to can have a bit of  crash  8)

anyone there can have a drive and passengers are allowed in the races (but not dd)

sadly the next bondsworth will be the last one at its current venue as the land has been sold. hopefully it will continue elsewhere.

strangely you dont have to be a farmer to own a field, get saving  ;)

I've looked at this, it seems good fun. The only preparation seems to be to remove the lights and wind the windows down. Not sure if I'd want to race without a proper harness though.

Does look a right laugh, cheaper than back to basics. I think I would want to use a HANS device to try and save my neck/ back a bit

I'd love to have a go at that. I laughed at the Merc with "I'm a twat" sprayed on the side.

No me neither, or at the very least a window net to cover that open window. I don't really understand it personally, I would much rather do something where I could use the car time and time again, but each to their own.

I'd love a go at something like this - looks like a lot of fun. Though I can't imagine the cars last very long, but it's probably cheap enough to just buy another that it doesn't matter too much. Shame that it sounds quite hard to find anywhere willing to host these though

See also bits of glass, plastic and random lumps of metal dumped into the ground with a possible garnish of antifreeze, oil and brake fluid......Tends to disagree with livestock in the future.

Used to do this with Anglias, Heralds and on one occasion a hilariously bent 100E.   Not competitively -  just for a laugh or until something broke.   As you can apparently now be arrested and thrown in clink for something you did 40 years ago I better not say where, exactly when, or how old I was.....Bikes, too although I shudder at some of the things that got mangled and left in a hedge.

As long as no trespass or theft is involved it should be fuck all to do with anyone else although I suspect that in this F.bok age keeping anything out of anybody else's business is obviously too hard to resist.

As for land spoiling - I think most of the tractors themselves back in our day left copious amounts of grey-painted debris and wibbly trails of runny stuff in the normal progress of their duties....

There's an identical event that takes place near Derby. The local councillors have somehow got it shut down. I'm not sure about the details but I guess it revolves around noise pollution or something.

When and where are we holding it then?

I`ve done this years ago, just a couple of mates and some £20 cars. far more fun than banger racing. I did that too and it can be far too serious

Also don`t ask permission, you won`t have it granted. It needs to be done with no advertising and over in a couple of hours at most. The landowner needs to claim he has left the  gate locked otherwise road rules apply. Then if investigated claim someone must have broken the lock but of course nobody will know who did it. then then deny all knowledge of knowing anything. No crime committed. sounds dodgy but realistically this is the only way of having fun like this on a small cheap scale.

Forgiveness is easier to gain than permission

Farmers get paid for field use and it was costing £300 for the day when I did autocross, if you can find a farmers son who also wants in on the fun then could be free.

most cars last till the end of the day and are then finished off in the dd. i doubt anyone spends much more than £100 on a car, often a fair bit less.

my fiesta is a exception - i am a pussy so stop at the end of the normal races, and have used the same car at the last 4 meetings.

the track is quite short so speeds are kept fairly sensible
