Always thought this was a fabulously strange car to put in an English museum.  Have they taken the cars off its roof?

Looks like a great opportunity, I'd love to stroke a Contessa.

thought it was a dolomite at first :D love the rear panel

If a Dolly, a Renault 8 and a Hunter made a triangle, is this the bastard love child?!

Same stylist, Michelotti. He penned the Triumph 1300 around the same time as the Contessa and they share many styling traits. He also did the DAF 44 around the same time that, from the side, looks like a Dolomite which has shrunk in the wash.

Michelotti was on his death bed when he penned the Reliant Scimitar SS1.

Haven't been there for years and years, didn't know there was a Contessa in there (as above God knows why) but it certainly makes me want to go again.

I would love a job like that, and I live in London, and I'm probably qualified.  However

Salary: £25,000-30,000 p.a.

It would be good if you …

ï‚· Are qualified to doctoral level in a relevant area.

I think the trick is to get them to have a permanent Caravan through the ages exhibition, and stay in a different caravan each night

Wages in the heritage and museums sector are very low. Saying that the science museums are public sector rather than charities like most heritage organisations so with public funding I would have expected a higher salary...

I wonder if this job includes access to all the Science Museum's real goodies which are tucked away on Wroughton airfield in Wiltshire.

Personally I think it's a real shame a lot of this public-owned stuff will never be seen by the public, some of it has never* been seen in my dad's lifetime let alone mine and he's 60 this weekend.

*They did used to have open weekends in the 80s and 90s, but from memory some hangers were kept shut.

A few years ago I got down to the final few and was interviewed for a curator job at Greenwich Observatory.  I think the pay on offer was less than this and I'm glad I didn't get the job as it would have been a struggle to decide what to do if they'd offered it to me especially as the commute would've been long.  Would have been a prestigeous thing to do though.  (For part of the interview I had to prepare a short presentation on any favourite museum exhibit - so I chose Parry Thomas' 'Babs' LSR car as we'd seen it on display in Pendine that summer and its got a fascinating story).

I suppose there are people who are willing to take less pay than would be ideal to do an interesting job at an interesting place rather than be paid more to be part of the general drudgery.

I imagine it is still possible to make arrangements to see particular things. Mrs_Seth went to see the experimental fuel cell powered Daf when she was doing her masters.

^^ That's the problem with such jobs, you'll find alot of people would love to do them and are probably both qualified to do so and very keen (making them great candidates) but the vexed subject of money comes into it and many of these places view their jobs as prestigous so you should be glad to do them at any price. Unfortunately the boring reality of life, mortgages, bills etc. intrude on this ideal.

£25-30K for London is taking the piss, unless you already live there as otherwise a big chunk of your take-home pay is going to you local friendly train operator. You have no mortgage left, no kids to bankroll (have own places/jobs/lives) & are probably semi-retired with a decent pension or are going to soon. Otherwise sorry, forget it. Shame as sounds like an interesting job.

Or live on a narrow boat... mind you it's a bit crowded there these days.

^^ Not surprised given housing costs in London now. Mind you, I'll bet mooring etc costs aren't cheap these days either.

Yes you definitely have to be passionate about the job. My previous full time job was as a land surveyor, and I earned fairly decent money doing it but absolutely hated it. I was already working part time in heritage (and had been for a couple of years prior) and I was then fortunate to find a full time job- albeit on a temporary contract, it is very hard getting permanent jobs in heritage. I took a 7k pay cut in doing so despite having more responsibilities plus working weekends and bank holidays but I absolutely love it. It's naturally been a bit more of a struggle making ends meet, and the fact it is not permanent is looming over me but will have to cross that bridge when I come to it.

Nah, still there, the totem of 'world cars' is one of those things that'll never move.

Not sure if the motor show Mini is still there though.

That's stunning.

Are they as thunderously shit as their trucks were supposed to be last time I looked?

And I had no idea they were rear-engined.  Wow.

Basically a Renault with an Italian restyle I think. A very tasty restyle at that. I'd love a go in one.

No idea but I posted some pics of the Hino Contessa 900 sport in the "cars you didn't know existed" thread and it's really nice!
