Simple answer: A Laguna II - They don't rust!

Sensible answer: A Laguna III - They don't rust and far less likely to break!

Set of good brand tyres, that's usually a sign it's had some care and attention in its life. It looks good for the money!

I see they're doing free valet, a tank of pez and a small baby with every purchase, that's not a bad deal.

Some body local to me had an 03 plate one. He was well in with the church - the car had "Jesus is Lord" on both sides in big letters.

I do not even think the lord himself could stop one of these dissolving.

Bro in law has one, it drives reasonably nicely and for a 1.8 (I think it's a 1.8!) in a relatively large car seems to be quite torquey and pokey.

Has nearly run dry of oil a few times, seems to like a bit of drink of that. Other than that I don't think he's touched it other than new tyres over the 4/5 odd years he's had it. Seems to have a penchant for filling the spare wheel well with rain water though but amazingly doesn't seem to have any rust back there even though there's usually a good few inches of water sloshing around at any one time

From the picture with the shiny pirelli-I'd be checking that rear callipers sliders, there is a lot of unwiped disc...an aerosol spray on the arch and the rear of the sill looks like it has the beginning of grot. The other rear disc looks like it's been hot.

Posted

Looks nice, as has been said rear brakes look a bit rusty. Get the arches cleaned out and waxoyled asap.

Posted

As above those rear brakes look shot. I'd make it my first job to swat some discs and pads on it. Hopefully the calipers won't be seized. Or leaking.

+1 on the brakes.

In fact, I'd be a little suspicious about the quality of that fresh MOT...

Mot was done a few months back end August. Could have been sitting for a few months maybe?

Posted

Not sure what the crack with the fresh MOT is - MOT history definitely says August MOTage. No mention of obvious tin worm on any previously MOTs though, so hopefully a good sign...

Posted

Several mentions of borderline brake pads and tyres though.

Posted

The brakes have to be awful to fail the MOT on a modern car.

+1 for getting it Waxoyled in the summer!

Failed its MOT today, hoping they are taking care of the advisories too, if not should I demand that they do?

Advisories relate to break pads and tyres.

Posted

How have the tyres worn on one side only whilst sitting at a dealership since the last MOT? Also note that the discs on the back weren't changed despite that uneven wear when the pads were changed just over a year (and only 5k miles) ago.

I wouldn't, not at that price :S

EDIT: Alright, overly negative; Yes, probably if they sort the discs and pads on the back and the imbalance on the front isn't a totally siezed caliper which they just hit with a hammer till it passes

It needs rear discs as well.

They'll not mess about with the advisories. It's a £1000 car, at trade rates it's going to cost them £100 to put some rear discs and pads on it. If it was a £10,000 car you'd have a case but if you go asking them to put new discs on the back they'll tell you to FRO.

Tru dat i guess.

Cant wait to have it, confirmed pickup tomorrow after passing its MOT.

Will include more pixxxxxxxxx

Changing the back brakes is fairly simple so long as you've the tools to wind the caliper in. £60 should do it. I'd use the proper tools though don't go in for Mcgyver short cuts like using pliers to wind cylinders in etc.

Not quite true, because Mazda. Usually the big blue spanner is needed to free off the slides, which sometimes come out like a bullet.
