Lexus LS400.

The illuminated ignition key hole, seat belt slot and footwells make it a bit unnecessary, but having something not work, that I can actually remedy is like a red rag to a bull for me.

All those other things work in mine, but the courtesy light would be nice.

My radio doesn't illuminate with the headlights either. Wonder how difficult it is to put a non-standard radio in one of these. The one in the Xantia has a USB port (I need to put the standard one back in before selling it).

I also don't have a remote fob at all (but I do have two keys) so I need to lock and unlock the doors by putting the key in the lock LIKE A PLEB. Also, the right-rear door doesn't play nicely with the central locking, aaaand my heated seats don't work.

Let me know what the timing belt is like to get done, think my one is due too.

I think the VVTi one says so on the engine acoustic cover. Been a while since I saw one, though.

Just be careful not to park it near any harbours :D

Let's focus on more important matters. Can one of you Lexus fan boys post up a pic of the pantograph driver's wiper at maximum extension? Thanks.

how about this look?

That looks familiar. I've seen it at car meets in Dundee before, it's on air suspension, and can crush drinks cans under its sills as a party trick. Driven by a lovely tall brunette too, IIRC.

Also, Mr Wobbler, I shall try, but I probably won't see daylight while at home until next weekend now, due to working 9-5 Mon-Fri. The pantograph wiper is lovely to behold though, it really is.

It does actually have an effect on the MPGEEES too.

According to 17-Coffees' one (which is a facelift model so has a trip computer) the economy goes up by 1MPG when the wipers are tucked away, while doing "70mph"

Two LS400's in the space of a week? Thing's are becoming rather common here... ;)

As Supernaut said, the wiper's are very aerodynamic, as tested on the M6 Toll last Saturday while doing "70". I managed to jump from 28MPG to 29MPG while doing according to the trip computer.

People asking about if it's a VVTi model? It's not, it's the Post 97(UCF21) cars such as mine have that (as well as upping power to 290hp), which for the record...

VVTi V8 Yo... by C C, on Flickr

Personally, like the look's of the pre VVTi engine more, as actually looks like a proper old school V8!

WilsonX2's LS400 is therefore the 260hp version just like Mason is. It's still good for a sub-7 second 0-60 time though - I officially* tested that in Mason once.

Edited for disturbing reality.

Interesting to see it move onto another owner. It’s doing well for a car that was sitting in a banger racer’s yard….

I owned it from 2014 to this summer. The lad before me on the logbook was local to this area, maybe an owner or two after that Facebook guy?

When I got hold if it the first thing I did was remove some dodgy ‘Diamond Cut Industries’ vinyl stickers and graphics off the windows, goodness knows what that was about. I think it went through a youngster or two down this way, pretty sure I saw it being driven ‘enthusiastically’ through town once.

Does it have any rear lambda sensors on it now? The connector to one broke off in my ownership and the other one was on the way out – it seemed to cause no ill-effect and the emissions were still within MoT limits so the garage just tidied up the loose wires and didn’t bother putting new ones in.

I also never bothered with the courtesy light due to all the other ones.

I think I have the remnants of the battery clamp – PM me your address and I’ll post up what I can find. Something might be missing, but for whatever reason it was never fitted and I found it in the boot one day (which was then emptied out for a track day). Does it still have my cable tie arrangement on there?!

I do miss it, in hindsight I’d rather the Sunny had sold of the two cars I put up for sale. I will have another some day, maybe the ’97-on Mk4 model. Not a 430 though.

The cable tie arrangements have been severed so the battery is doing its own thing at the moment.

Had a fright this morning. Plugged the sat nav in the cigarette lighter and lost supply to the centre console. No demist or heaters. Bugger. Trudged back to Halfords for some Micro blade fuses as I didnt have any. Guess the cigarette lighter is on the fritz. No cigars for me!

Changed the fuse and all is well again.

I dont know if the rear sensors have been reinstated but Im gonna guess not. If theres no ill effects, I think ill be keeping it that way.

Heres something to hopefully cheer Dollywobbler up after the storm carnage in Dragonland.

My front lambda sensors are fucked, so it idles at 2,000rpm when it's cold. It settles down after about a minute though.

It's fun to 'creep' along in drive at 20mph though!

This is a big car. Theres no getting away from its sheer size. Yet when i stick it between two modern compact cars, it still looks small!?

Or is it my eyes?

Not big. Apparently similar in length to a current Mondeo Estate.

That photo really highlights how big current 'superminis' are though!

To be honest, there's not a lot of room for it to move is there? I'm assuming it still has the slightly-smaller-than it-ought-to battery on there - I bought one that size as I knew it would also fit my Camry.....

One foible that you might find in winter is it cutting-out, which is mildly exciting mid-bend when it's dark. Seems to be ignition switch related, and the merest touch or wiggle of the key sees everything come back to life again. I assumed it was the ignition switch, and when it gradually warms up some contact in it moves just enough to cause a problem. It was usually about 15-20 miles into a journey. A replacement switch would be the best answer, I did read that it's a not uncommon problem and other Toyota ones of the time will fit - I was eventually going to try one off a Camry, but (as usual) never got round to it.

Just realised my comments make it seem like it was somewhat neglected when in my ownership. I don't know if the invoices are still there but I got it through a couple of MoT's and it also went into the garage before each trackday, I must have spent a few hundred pounds on it to make sure all was in order mechanically.

I like this old lady, she can certainly pick up her skirts and sprint, when called upon.

The ships wheel is a little on the large side and the floaty ride combined with seats with as much bolster support as a park bench make high speed antics interesting, mind. :-)

Feels massive to me. Im not used to big ones.

..... First night joys, eh ?? ;)

Width and height. Remember my Mondeo is wider and taller than it, innit.

Anything 'small' is a whale, now;
