If its that far I ain't taking the van.

Nor the audi now sadly. We can go in the Xantia

I reckon DavidF would love* to drive us there! What would pez cost? £500 each assuming a full load?

Approx 2100 miles from Scotchland to .bg at 9ish mpg = 234 gallons

234 gallons = 1059 litres

@ approx £1.069 per litre = £1132.42

Divide by 82 seats = £13.81 per passenger.

Not including ferries or tolls.

Thats not a bad price to be fair. Round up to 20 quid plus ferry an toll and we still have a decent mode of cheap transport!

No your right, thats very fair! Sealtainn would have to build a travelodge in the grounds to accommodate us though

Hint from an ex-routemaster owning Dutch friend to any yellow double decker owners check the height restrictions of bridges in Euroland were built lower then UK.

The tolls will sting with something that size, we paid around £100 for tolls and French motorways with the Minibus

But even at £100 a person it would be a lot cheaper, but not as much fun as CONVOY!

Aaah youll love it! First person to ask 'are we there yet' can continue the trip in the engine bay!

We could all chip in for euro bus breakdown cover too, then watch the chap shit himself (should the worse happen) when they have to bus us all back.

Or... You have a train license now don't you? Where's your nearest train station sealtainn?

They still do the car trains in Europe, not sure of the routes/ costs but could be a good option.

The most confusing thing I find is that nodding your head means No and shaking it means Yes. Currently I find myself doing a strange wobbly headed combination of both......

^^^^ This only applies to half the population though, the other half nod in the 'traditional' fashion just to confuse things further. Also, the wobbly head means okay, as in a nod of agreement rather than a definitive yes or no answer to a question.

I did the 3000km BG to UK trip last year in 30 hours and three tankfulls in a diesel Astra. As always with directions and route planning, everyone thinks their way is best but from my experience coming through Serbia or Romania are pretty much equal. Romania seems to go on forever but if you choose a nice route through Transylvania it is very beautiful, the Serbia way has some brand new and empty motorway but that avoids the lovely countryside. Either way, anyone coming this way should expect no motorways for the majority of the Balkans. There is a brand new motorway over here that can't be opened until service stations are built and that won't happen until all the bribes have been counted and verified and the contract for building and operating them is handed out.

As for SFBG, I've had various conversations with numerous members at several meets in the past and there are people who want to have a trip over here. It could never replace an official SF as the logistics would rule out a large percentage of members. Unlike me, most AS people have actual people and things in their lives and as well as the travel costs I imagine permission needs to be sought from partners, mistresses, work, bookies, parole officers etc.

I have told everyone I have spoken to about it that there is a standing invitation from me for any 'shiter visit over here. I have about twenty beds and loads of outdoor space.

Oh and I now live in the mountains about an hour South of VT Sealtainn, the nearest village is Plachkovtsi. I left VT a few months ago.

That'll be THE place to take Citroen ZX na 1.9Ds and swap them for old Ladas for the return journey then (unless there's some ex-soviet 2 strokes or 4x4s ?)

^^^^ Only problem is no-one here will touch RHD. Also, there are LOTS of ex-Soviet 2 strokes and 4x4s.

Very interesting thread also enjoyed Bucketeers. Please update with Facebook content here when internetz allow. My Rumanian mate at work is always telling me to try Rumania/Bulgaria. The countryside and castles he shows me look incredible.

^ The skiing is a major part of the tourist industry and the resorts are popular and of a good standard. I have a couple of friends that work at the most popular resort, Bansko, and people are coming from all around the world for the quality and of course the price.

That's what they tell me anyway, I wouldn't go near the place as I'm a uncoordinated oaf who thinks skiing is shit.

Also, the train is only good if you're Baron von Moneybags or summat. Flights can be got for 25 quid, coaches for 80 to 130.

Fantastic, ta for the heads-up. How well do the locals cope with English / German / Russian, etc.? I can read the Bulgarian alphabet but that's not always much help in working out what things actually mean :-)

Problem is the train from Manchester to that London is about 380 quid, 260 quid from there to France, then it's maybe another £14.67 to Bulgaria.
