Rover 25 iS Diesel - £275 - P'boro

I'm surprised to read of rubbish brakes on 25's. That free 1.4 K I had this year had just about the fiercest stoppers I've experienced, I mean face-suckingly good. I know the 2.0td will be heavier, but still...

The brakes on the Project Drive 25 were bloody good, but that's the first R3 I've driven that did have decent brakes.

The ones i see up here are the same. Odd as 45's and 75's of the same era dont seem to.

Wow. I'm beating them off* with a shitty stick.

If I threatened to scrap it / grew a beard would that help someone buy it, do you think?

Posted

Possibly, but I will bump it back up as I have fond memories of my one, which was a W reg 25 iS. That was only a 1.4, but was still surprisingly quick (especially to people behind me when I was on slip roads to A14). Needless to say, I reckon this would provide even more shocked faces to appear in your rear view mirror.

The fact that it runs on unleaded pelicans is putting me off.

I have too many fucking cars as it is, so I can't. A small diesel should be a quick seller should it not!!

Maybe that tatty bodywork is putting people off (maybe).

Might be worth the pain of Gumtree. You never know.

Yep even better with the second hand disks and pads from my 214! Around the facelift/project drive the master cylinder or servos were changed for improved pedal feel iirc. It does mean the K12 micra I regularly drive has gone from feeling like it had excellent brakes and heavy steering to rubbish brakes and light steering!

But it's a cheap diesel with 12 months test for under £300 and I've hardly minced my words about how crap it looks (it looks crap).

I have my own theories as to why people aren't keen. Not repeating them here.

Can't be arsed with Gumtree. I only have so much patience and Autoshite exhausts most of it these days.

Autoshite probably has what, 50 regular members posting every day? How many are in the market for a Rover 25 diesel?

You can't force people to buy your car.

It's a good price and I'm sure someone will buy it if not on here.

Lots of them [seem to] want cheap diesels.

This is a cheap diesel.

It's going to be one of those cars I regret 'saving', I can tell. 95% of people wouldn't bother keeping something like this roadworthy. The response I've got from around the rest of the web is almost making me want to scrap it out of spite just to stick two fingers up at the bangernomics crowd - if it's that crap and no one wants it, no one'll care. Right? I thought new Autoshite was all about running a piece of shit on a tiny budget and not caring what happens to it. This car - to my mind - is the embodiment of that fly by night mentality, as much as it drives me spare.

Right?

No-one has any money at the moment. I certainly don't.

Logic dictates that this should be an easy sale. Small, easy parking due to size, resale silver, loads of spares available, diesel.

In the 'real world' (shudder), people look at a slightly down at heel car and think that looks shit, people will laugh at me and take the piss, it looks like it is falling apart.

Here..... it's a small diesel, looks shonky, yay, lets buy the fucker and piss off the neighbours. Usually.

Maybe folk are holiday broke. Maybe folk are realising that they just have too many cars to fettle.

I do hope it sells as it is too useful to scrap.

Which is why I've had zero interest other than people moaning that a cheap declared rusty car 'is rusty'.

Or something.

For what it's worth, I don't think the £170 Rover 75 has sold, Krujoes mates 106 plus a few others.

Could be worse, you could be lumped with a crap running 1.0 Corsa on which the daft owner spent a silly amount having the bodywork fixed!

For the cash it's a bloody bargain, I nearly had one 7 yrs ago a mate was selling but went for a 306 2.0hdi, like you say purple a lot of peeps are on holiday ect and/or concerned about looks and I guess to an extent I'm the same but not ocd...not yet.. The other mondy isn't just as bad as this but not far, most of the rust on it is the front doors and underneath.

All this crap isn't helping sell the rover though, surely somebody will buy it I mean ffs a diesel with yrs mot for under 300..

Yeah, yeah, I'm not saying it's just me. I think it's mutual brassic season.

At least you are a willing seller too, you wouldn't believe the bother I have had with other sellers (not on here) of cheap cars who don't respond to calls, texts, emails saying take my money!!

Brassic is certainly the word. I wouldn't have a xantia parked outside if it wasn't for bub accepting payments monthly! Managed to sell a Henry yesterday to give him 2 up front though

And he took half his clothes off for me, I mean now that is service...

Listen man, whatever it takes to help you through the day. These be hard times.

Not sure I'd call that service. I'd probably call that scary!

Sorry Bub :)

Gumtree it: "Rover 25 diesel for sale, with the bombproof diesel engine, cambelt change due in x thousands miles, lookd rough but has 12 months MOT, £400. Don't come the cunt with piss-take offers."

Posted

Now hang on. I didn't remove all my clothes, I removed my t shirt. He'll Sam think ya self lucky I left it on in the car, hate being hot. Anyway back to the rover, it's a great little motor and I'd roll in it lovely. Problem is though it's too small for my needs. Regards no one buying look at how long the xantia hung around for before it went.

Dear Sir,

If I give you £75 will you keep it  till Sept 15th when I can decide to buy it or not??

Er...no, sorry.

I'd like to sell it before then because it's living in borrowed space at the moment.
