MG6 killed.

There is simply no reason to buy one. The market is flooded with ex demo/pre reg/ex hire Mondeos, Insignias and plenty of other competent modern cars that are a known quantity with large dealer networks.

MG stuff only makes sense when it's peanuts and you're going to be the last owner before EMR Recycling.

If you suffer from terminal shitism, yet aren't opposed to shiny shit from China answering questions nobody asked even in China,

that there OMGMG6BYSAIC suits your needs* in an ideal way.

I only hope they aren't going to offer me a position as sales manager after they read this

Mark my words these will be rare as rocking horse shit in about 10 years time. I mean who wants one now let alone 100k down the line.

The garage where I got my MX5 from changed to MG from Mazda (not their choice!) and I went and had a look at these. Looks okay from a distance but when I found they don't do auto, I didn't bother looking any more. See loads of MG3s around here though but no 6s.

If the MG3 had a decent engine (and some kind of hybrid or diesel option) it could sell in reasonable numbers.

However, SAIC aren't interested in large RHD sales here; compared to the MG6, though, the '3's almost common!

GM, SAIC engine sharing...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_small_gasoline_engine

I'm having trouble finding some tech specs for the SAIC "NSE" 1.5 engine. If i had bore/stroke for it, that would probably give some clues. But in concept, it's very like Toyota, Suzuki and Daihatsu 1.5 DOHC chain-driven engines.

My best guess, as a 1498cc, Chinese-market engine, is Toyota's 7NR-FE, but the design of the cam cover/chain box is more like Ecotec.

Who knows. Either way, it's not a rehashed K-series.

The wiki says 74mm bore and 86.6mm stroke, that seems like a massively long stoke motor for the bore. The GM motor will be used in the MG GS, it's not used in the MG3 as that has different cubic capacity.

just had a quick look on Autotrader (lety's be honest, depsite everything on this thread I still kindof want one, and there's this example at the top

Half it's value gone in a year. Ouch.

All this negativity about the '6, I for one can't wait to have a dog eared £500 example.

Wasn't the Daewoo 1.5 a 16 valve twink?

Yeah, the small engine is well documented. The New Small Engine (NSE, VTi-Tech) is less well documented.

Yes, but IIRC, belted and a Family II variant.

Perhaps they can increase sales and profit margins on higher spec cars by offering better options?  They need an L, GL and HLS.

I have a suspicion that their values will stay artificial high (i.e. what they are now) as they'll be a cheap giffer car.

"Ooo Doreen, instead of this 6 year old Micra/Jazz/[insert car here], we could have this lovely 3year old MG!"

"An MG ... trying to relive your more wilder days again Frederick?"

Just because people are old, doesn't necessarily make them stupid.

I agree - I'd smoke around in one if it were that cheap, must beat a 12 year old Scenic

I would like one. But I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred. I'll clear the space on the driveway after Xmas then.

Can't see the prices being held very high, to most people they'll be thinking where they'll get the parts etc. I can see a 14 plate one being worth at a guess... £1200 in about 4 years time. In comparison to probably 3 times that for something comparable.

Like MG, the BTCC is a sorry, miserable shadow of what it once was.

Exactly. I already was stupid when I was young.

My MG brochure arrived today.

I hope they are not pinning their hopes on a sale as they will be disappointed.

I saw two yesterday in Brecon/Llandovery area. I'm not sure multiple sightings have ever happened before, except for the Longbridge rally. I suspect they are clearing the decks for the SUV thing, which is (or has) just been launched.

If they'd managed to get the 6 out, or even the rebadged 75 and 25, a year or so after the MGR crash they would have had a bit of a market, particularly if some of the dealers were still around (which they must have been since I've seen 06/56 reg plate MG Rovers) they would have some half decent places willing to sell them as well, these dealers would have had some customers coming back with their MGRs at three years old looking to chop them in for a new car in that way people scared of MoTs do.

But they waited far too long, by which time all the half decent MGR dealers had got new franchises, and the rest and upped and died. I suspect an unregistered 75 would have been an easier car to sell than a 6 anyway.

Dacia show how it's done these days, and the new Ssanyong range (Tivoli and the double cab pick-up) seem to be picking up fans as well.
