JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 It's collection day. Setting out later to pick up a very exciting purchase from a fellow forum member. It's going to be a slightly dull collection thread as I'm taking the Disco+trailer ... not because the car isn't roadworthy - far from it - but because it's the only way I can get to the other side of the country and back in time. Nearly hampered by a FTP first thing when the (notoriously crap) removable tow bar on the Disco decided to break its lock and not go into its slot. Fixed with the help of wiggling, gentle persuasion and BFO hammer. Pic of collection rig to follow when I'm hitched up and ready to roll... CGSB, Cavcraft, The Moog and 5 others 8
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Added to my Footman James policy for just £34. With agreed value of £2k (!!) So I can drive it when I get back tonight Any guesses yet....?
SamR380 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Hmm given your name and the fact it will be quicker to tow it than drive it... Some kind of agricultural machinery?
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Vantman, guessed in one! Ready to roll... wuvvum, Skizzer and Junkman 3
Skizzer Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Outstanding! Very glad this little belter is staying in the family.
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 The glamour. As I'm skiving off work, I've stopped off in the the piss-smelling lorry park at Toddington Services to do a quick software demo to someone in New York- let's hope the 3G holds out. Junkman, Dick Cheeseburger and The Moog 3
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Loaded and ready to go - great to meet Barrett. 3-4 hour drive back to the Visa's new home in the Fens. CGSB, wuvvum, gm and 23 others 26
garethj Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Look at that Visa, rear fogs and reversing lights - it's just crammed with extras! JohnDeere 1
barrett Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Bon voyage! Au revoir petite voiture! DSdriver and Skizzer 2
Skizzer Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I'm sure* those are parking sensors in the back bumper, too. JohnDeere 1
Tayne Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Its French, the whole back bumper is a parking sensor. gadgetgricey, greengartside, wuvvum and 12 others 15
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Bloody tailgaters on the M25 Junkman, BorniteIdentity, Jim Bell and 3 others 6
Felly Magic Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 YAY, it stays within the realms of the mighty beige forum. There is much rejoicing JohnDeere 1
billyboy406v6 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 A combine would be far more interesting, I am not happy. Sweet little car by the way...
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 And back. Interestingly I got better mpgs with the Visa on the trailer than going down empty. Must be the momentum. Unloaded from the trailer... I think they like each other, though probably a bit of a language barrier. The Prelude can talk about build quality, Lean and Six Sigma. The Visa will tut and say "zat is nozzing if you do not av ze soul, ze romance, ze je ne sais quoi." Meanwhile the Land Rover, which can only hold a conversation with a laptop via an OBD2 port is maintaining a stiff upper lip and sulking in the corner (with apologies for excessive modernz pics in the post). dollywobbler Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Brilliant. Top driveway. JohnDeere and BorniteIdentity 2
Tayne Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 And back. Interestingly I got better mpgs with the Visa on the trailer than going down empty. The trailer will be more aerodynamic with the visa on the back, that big upright tailgate will create a lot of drag when empty. JohnDeere and GoGently 2
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Brilliant. Top driveway.Contents are great - but the actual driveway is definitely not top... gravel is bloody awful for working on cars, makes a trolley jack and axle stands near impossible, and makes my knees sore. I want to lay a slab of concrete...
Spottedlaurel Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 They make for an interesting pair of cars. Bet it's not a combination too many people have achieved (outside here at least). JohnDeere 1
barrett Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 You got home before I did, as predicted. I hope you enjoy this thing as much as I have, it's absolutely ace. I realised I've done 3000 miles in it just pootling about. On the right roads it's an absolute hoot to drive. I think I miss it already JohnDeere and Skizzer 2
JohnDeere Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Shit. I just realised that by posting the Visa pics without blurring out the (rather fine DMB) number plate, it could be now be cloned by every other dodgy internet user with an orange Citroen Visa. I expect an avalanche of speeding tickets and parking fines. BorniteIdentity, DSdriver and GoGently 3
JohnDeere Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 I had time for a very quick drive last night after getting home - and loved the return to twin-cylinder Citroen driving. Longer drive planned for after work this evening It's got a lot of similarities to my old 2CV (last driven 25 years ago) - but with luxury. The PRN controls are also great. I still can't get over how great the interior is. I am hoping that I'll be bringing it to Shitefest as a day visitor on the Saturday. Barrett gave me a good pile of history which was great - but also revealed the tyres are on the extremely elderly side. That, and the MOT due in less than a month means there are a few jobs to be getting on with (HBOL ordered)... -- Fix windscreen washer (when Barrett was showing me the car, he pointed out the rear wash wipe - which has its own reservoir but with no nozzle currently connected. I'm hoping I can simply swap over the pumps. I can hear a relay clicking when I press the front was button, so I know that the electrics are working at least as far as there. -- Get 5 new tyres (yep, I'll even treat it to a new spare). Barrett and I both agreed that Citroens need Michelins. Unfortunately the original 135SR13s are not available in the Michelin classic range (only 15"s) so it'll have to be a new set of 135/180R13s which are the nearest fit. Unfortunately these are also not available as Michelins, so it'll be another mid-range brand, probably Firestone. -- Investigate non-working fuel gauge -- Service - I'd certainly like to change the brake fluid before too much longer. And the coolant probably needs doing by now too (joke). -- Then I'll get my local garage to give it a pre-MOT going over with the jobs that need ramps - my target is a clean MOT with no advisories - wish me luck... dollywobbler, Skizzer and purplebargeken 3
Skizzer Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Good luck, especially because: I am hoping that I'll be bringing it to Shitefest as a day visitor on the Saturday. So are we. beko1987 and JohnDeere 2
