Marten-Problem

Hi!

Does anyone of you have any tips for me what I might do against martens destroying my Buick from the inside out?

The last few days, I found parts of the bonnet-insulation, parts of heat-protection-mats and even parts of the interieur-ventilation-cover on the floor under my Buick. There must be animals that pull those parts our and have fun in the engine bay.

The car is parked outside because I dont have a garage for it, so what would you do? I fear that maybe next time, it will not be a insulation-mat but a fuel-line or something like that.  :-( Is there anything that works?

Thanks a lot!

Try a chilli pepper spray - it works on motorbike wiring vs rodents.

Find out what they are and then find out what they don't like.  Ideally, you need to make a barrier around the car to stop them getting to it.  You can use poisoned bait but you've got to be careful it's safe for the animals further up the food chain.

I don't think "blowing the bloody doors off" is quite what is intended.............

A good hot engine wash may help, worked for me. Reasoning:  they mark their territory. If you change location (work to home), another one gets the smells, considers an enemy in his turf and destroys his nest = your engine compartment.

Apparently they like jam sandwiches.

Instructions:

Placed slice of bread on battery

Apply jam

Run bare wire between battery terminals

Put other slice of bread on top.

Pine Marten rocks up, thinks. "Ooh jam sandwich om nom nom pzzzzzzzzzzt"

Problem solved!! Probably best to ensure the vehicle isn't parked too close to the house in case of immolation....
