Essex V6 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Having a lot of issues with the Manta which we have not been able to get to the bottom of - it takes ages for it to warm up (best part of 10 mins yesterday) and is spewing out a lot of black smoke on idle. Running like a bag of nails and when accelerate even more black smoke comes out. Once it is finally warmed up, it is idling at 2000 + and almost feels like throttle sticking. So far idle control and cold start valve and plugs have all been changed. Any suggestions to likely cause of above problems gratefully received thanks!

Essex V6 Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 Injection - would agree it is some sort of fuelling issue Vulg
andy18s Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Don't assume a new part is working fine. The cold start valve could be faulty and giving the symptoms you describe
cort16 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 have you tried unplugging the maf?The maf may be misreading and telling it there's more airflow and upping the fueling.
Essex V6 Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 No idea mate - Will chck with my mechanic
brownnova Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Some of my very first words were Opel Manta according to my folks... Owing to the toy one I used to take everywhere. Sorry, that's no help whatsoever with your problem! tooSavvy and andy18s 2
michael1703 Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Check temperature sensors, injection may think it is hot or cold when it isn't and vice versa. One has brown plug and one has blue One tells the injection what to do, the other runs the temperature gauge
Bren Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Coolant temp sensor? Does the reading on the gauge come via the sensor?
lisbon_road Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Great car, be good to see some more pictures and we can all make more unhelpful - but flattering - comments.
Sigmund Fraud Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Are those K-Jetronic ? If so, could it be the fault of the notorious cold start injector ?
Jimbo Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Fueling on the LE jetronic is controlled by the temp sensor and air box flap, the cold start valve just allowed air past the throttle butterfly. So you have one of four things playing up the air flap, temp sensor, fuel pressure regulator or the ECU. One thought though is it full of coolant ? Good luck with the car I miss Mantas in my life.
Jimbo Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Coolant temp sensor? Does the reading on the gauge come via the sensor?Separate sensors in the thermostat housing.
