That's an absolute stunner of a car.

It was much better with the original wheels.

It was much better with the original wheels.

The ones in the pic above look too small for it.

Fabulous car.  I don't like the wheels either but they bolt on right so in the scheme of things, it is still a great car.  (and in the write up, it says that he has kept the original wheels so all well - real rare original alloys too).

Takes me back to 1978.  They really knew how to rot though.

I wouldn't be pissing about putting that on any forum.   Straight off to auction with it, even with their stealing commission.

Very nice. Definitely one for saving

Sports steels. I like those wheels. much better than the ghia ones in the earlier pictures.

The 'Ghia' wheels were the only alloy wheel option on the S and they're listed on the invoice in the RR thread.

My 2.3S had them.

I prefer the wheels on it. I thinks it's because everyone stuck ghia wheels on their l's gl's and crusaders back in the day.

I used to put RS alloys on my Cortinas.

Weirdly, Fiesta Supersport ones really suited them. The colour wasn't ideal on mine...

all "S" were std with sports rims (51/2j std dish) ghia alloys were optional extra (rarely seen in period on any new mk4), with fiesta supersport listed in the rs parts book as correct rims (also as part of Xpack).

they where std on mk5 XR6 "motorsport"

mk1 escort RS 4 spokes are listed as correct for mk3 Cortina (have them on my 72 GT) but can't ever remember seeing any in period in pics or live?

XR3 cloverleafs were offered in parts of Europe on the taunus TC3 (mk5) "S"

the mk4 "S" is among the rarest of all mk's of Cortina with 2.0 versions thought to be in low double figures with the 2.3 accounting for approx. 1/2 doz similar figures for the 2.3 GL esp est,1.3 crusader mk5.

rarest are the mk5 huntsman est (1 survivor), mk3 1.3 est (again only 1) same for 2000L saloon.

uk mk3's with bench frt seat both saloon & est are in single figures.

will take my anorak of now.

My dad sold a few 2000E 'Olympic' jobs new. Olympic blue and with loads of rare options. They had the widest sport steel 'dartboard' rims I've seen. Don't know if they were special order but I've never seen another one on those wheels.

The RS alloys make it look like every other modded restored 124'000 mile 15 owner Cortina. The Ghia wheels are lush, and were bolted to the car nearly 40 years ago. Some cars just need to be left alone.

It's not like he's slammed it, stuck some TSW Venoms on it, some old skool tattoo type face script down the windscreen is it. Its all period stuff.

oylmpic special 2000E was avl for about 3 months in spring/summer 76 (games were that year), wheels were std sports rims, the one option I've never been able to find out about is what the radio cassette player was as non was avl in the ford range of that period.

presume it was a philipps model as they made fords radio's.

Posted

These ones didn't have the standard sports rims, they were definitely deeper dish but yes it was May/June 76.

The radio cassette was a Ford branded Phillips Turn-o-lock job if memory serves me right.

Nah mine is still in the garage awaiting respray when funds allow.

Just my luck that I had a pretty much unique car then someone else finds an identical one except mint with 12,000 miles on the clock 😂😂

I think I must have upset you boys, I don't get invited on the jollys anymore.

You know that you're welcome to come along - even with the MK3 :)
