doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Hi all, as a new member I'd like to see if anybody has any love for the Rover 214 SLI? It has MOT till June and 96500 on the clock. Engine, breaks, clutch gearbox are in good order. It has some rust on the door bottoms, edges of wings, and along rear quarter light. Certainly nothing that's an MOT issue. Underneath is solid! It had a new alternator in March. The bad news? It needs a new exhaust flexi, as it is loud at present! Also the car has either a flat battery or a dodgy starter motor (or both). You could drive it away by bump starting it and it has half a tank of fuel. I'd like £150ish, I believe it would make a good autoshite car for someone with a bit of technical know how, which I lack. Any interest here? I've got my eye on a MK2 Cav! Cavcraft and KruJoe 2

doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Hope this gives you all some idea! It's got plenty of easyish - to - sort issues. The drivers door handle is broken, the passenger side window is off the guides. The rear wiper is intermittent. So it is really a spares and repairs job, but can realistically be driven away with a bump start. For someone with a reasonable technical knowledge it will be an easy project!
KruJoe Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Oxenhope! I used to live there, my sister still does. That's a 214 I had from her a few years back on her drive. I sold the sawn-off front cut to Bo11ox. Christine and M'coli 2
doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Yeah I live a few miles away from Oxenhope, but that picture was taken as I love old fashioned petrol stations - and that one is like something out of the 1960s = a reasonable pump price, and you get served too! So, anybody on here brave enough to take the old girl on? It strangely makes me slightly revered at work when I turn up in the old girl roaring like a panzer every morning! gets some favourable comments as well as negatives I'm sure you could make it a decent motor for well under £150 spend, and there aren't many still about! I'm just so looking forward to the arrival of the Cavalier!
doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 Yeah, the car is located a few miles from Oxenhope, but what a great filling station that is! Get your fuel pumped for you, and there's even a red phone box on the forecourt!
Guest Lord Sward Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Can I just say scrap is about £15 per tonne at the moment. Christine and Cavcraft 2
doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 I'm not going to scrap it - If all else fails, I may spend a few hundred getting it done up myself. Actually when it was running nice, it had a nice little bit of power for a 1.4! Also it is damned comfortable and qualifies for classic insurance @£220 a year! But I noted that there were a few belonging to members on autoshite - and thought somebody might want it for parts if not as a project KruJoe 1
KruJoe Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 You've said it now, you've got to save it yourself!Thing is, everyone on here has too many cars/projects/wrecks littering every spare space they have, so it's unlikely to find a home unless you're actually giving it away. Save it, and keep us updated as you go, there'll be encouragement and help offers if you need it. If you're near Oxenhope, I'm about 30-40 minutes north of you... do you want a free spares car? It has good doors, a rear wiper, and best of all, it's red! (Serious offer.) That's the only image of it I can find just now. It's less complete now, but has many bits you need. Cavcraft, Christine, Partridge and 1 other 4
doubleyeller Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 You know what? Thanks, that would be ideal - but does it have an exhaust and starter motor still?
KruJoe Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 It's a 216, so the Honda engine sadly, not the "K". (Starter - yes, but it won't fit yours.)Did you see this thread..?http://autoshite.com/topic/23846-landy-manns-british-tat-214-%C2%A31299-starter-fitted-110-serviced/ I did have a good exhaust, but I gave that to JohnK with my old white 216.
vulgalour Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I pilfered quite a few bits off that 216 Krujoe has (which used to be my brother's), here's the most recent snaps I think there are of it taken last year when I'd only just started sorting my 414 out. I'd be tempted by your flame red 214 SLi at the price asked were it not for the fact I still have my flame red 414 SLi and I'm very happy with it. KruJoe 1
Partridge Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Hope this gives you all some idea! It's got plenty of easyish - to - sort issues. For someone with a reasonable technical knowledge it will be an easy project!I've replaced door handles on Rovers and it's a total arsewank of a job - unless you're an octopus with very thin tentacles - ideal for on here, it will be great for generating sweary threads
doubleyeller Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 That Rover 216 offered looks like just the job to spruce mine up.....and I will take up the kind offer if only I can find a way to sort the flexi and starter motor without a £250 bill!
JohnK Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Are the K-Series and Honda exhaust parts for these interchangeable? I've still got the exhaust Joe gave me - it's tied to the ceiling in one of my lockups!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 I got a cheap front pipe for my 3-dr 214 off eBay for about 30 groat, it wasn't a lot. JohnK 1
doubleyeller Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Front section with flexi quoted at £60 including welding. But starter motor is at least £140 including fitting for secondhand. Aaaaarrrrrghhhh lol! Just have to keep parking it on slopes I guess hahaha!
JohnK Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Is there no nearby shiters who could help out with a bit of time to fit the flexi and starter motor ?
Landy Mann Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 If the starter is the same as the bubble shape 214 eBay is your friend, mine was £11.99 used (if is the same search for a rover 25 one, they're are loads available.) Either remove the wheel or place on ramps for access then just use a 13mm socket to complete the change. Don't forget to disconnect the battery (10mm) socket. I did mine in around an hour it is a genuine case of bolt off bolt on. Good luck Sent from my XT1068 using Tapatalk chaseracer and saucedoctor 2
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 SRSLY man you can diy a starter on one of these in half an hour. You'll be amazed. saucedoctor 1
doubleyeller Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 I'm sure up for giving it a go if its an easy fix for even a twit like me. I enjoy working on cars, but my mechanical abilities are tested even by things like changing a battery!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 whereabouts are you located? If you can drive to me (Uttoxeter) I will bosh a starter on for you. vulgalour, Cavcraft and andrew e 3
doubleyeller Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Thanks for the offer, but I guess I'll have to look around for a secondhand one first. I'm up in Yorks, so its do able there and back in a day
gadgetgricey Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 If the weather holds I'll probably be able to get you a starter this week, as will have a 214 breaker car to get rid of stuff from.Wanted an SEi interior to fit in my 214 SLI, and was cheaper to buy the whole car.... Just depends on the weather had enough of working in the rain..
vulgalour Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 There's no way a starter is going to cost you £140, that's nonsense money. Get yourself over here: http://www.rover200.org.uk/ there's some really helpful chaps on there and at least one person has a starter motor available. They know their stuff.
purplebargeken Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Some brilliant offers of help. Nice one folks
Guest Lord Sward Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Benny Ben Adams R61983man or whatever he's called on the internet, he got a new flexi pipe delivered for his 'historic' 214.
