What do we think of Nissan Terranos

7 seater jobbie. Seems rather appealing :)

Me dad had a 2005 LWB one from new, til a few years back.

The 3rd row of seats were stowed in the loft, never to see the light of day again.

I can confirm that should you shed a rear wheel, whilst in motion, the rear bumper/mudflap is strong enough to support the vehicle.

The front seats don't go very far back, and they are a laugh in RWD/wet combo's.

Had one in for mot today It's a 1 owner from new and has been spot on mechanically, but they do like to rot. Sill and rear end of the chassis are favourites and brake pipes rust for fun. Overall not a bad old bus.

Check rear of body by seatbelt mounts and inner sills. Usually not there.

A former colleagues mum-in-law had on (diesel I think) for quite a while, she loved it (he hated it!!) and drove it 'til it dropped despite everyone telling her to get shot of it. It died a couple of years ago due to an epic MoT fail - severe rust, suspension and emissions issues amongst other things.

I use a 2.7 SWB once in a blue moon, it's well looked after and gives few probs usually. 5th gear went at about 70k, it has a snapped in heater plug which doesn't bother it and does about 26mpg driven steady before you start towing. Ex McAlpine van converted to car, it is regularly Waxoyled and has no rot issues at 130k/2002

Nice compact 4x4 compared to the modern ones . Pretty tough although the clutch is a bit weak for towing . Parts can be dear but Milner off road has most bits you will need.

They do rust tho .

Rust...... ok

Generally ok otherwise.......... cool.

General consensus is that they steadily got worse during the production run. 3.0 is to be avoided if you don't like stress. Transmission cheapening happened too, like deletion of the locking front hubs.

Sadly, that's balanced by horrific rot. It's why most of then have died/gone for export. They are awesome off road and the only problem I had with mine was wheel nuts often coming loose.

I seem to remember these got a slagging from the motoring press which is a recommendation in my book.

My neighbour had a 3.0 di and found it very thirsty after his similar sized Toyota. He didn't keep it long !

Never been really concerned about OMG gas guzzler nun killer. Reliability is king though!

Good thread - lot of effort went into it.

Any details at all about it other than it has 7 seats? Age, engine, etc

Posted

Thank you. I do aim to please. It took me a huge amount  of thought to balance the layout of the question, the wording, the flow, the grammar, the speeling.

The amount of effort was in direct proportion to the information I have for it at the moment. Oh, no...... hang on...... it's a 7 seater.

Fuck, I nearly ruined it all then

Overall views are always useful in the first instance. Specifics can come later. As soon as I know moar, I will post. Have no fear of that you lovely lot.

I'm 52 in April. Thanks for asking. Ohhh, the CARS age, ha, silly me

I'm guessing it will be a LWB as 7 seats in a SWB would make it really, really cramped. Or suitable for very slim and slender folk. Which I'm not. Not even a little bit.

Mind you, the Japanese are by default rather slim and slender, so maybe it is a SWB crammed to the gills with 7 seats. Possible Japanese home market Terrano which was imported by a not very bright importer who only entered the market after the ending of the real grey import boom.

It's all speculation at this point. I wonder if it will be blue or red.

The tension is nearly killing me.

^^ That looks oddly appealing.

I know for sure it will have wheels, and tyres. I suppose the tyres will be black.  ;-)  :D

I've been in the back of a 7 seater Terrano, but only as a small child. It wasn't as cramped as the Daihatsu Fourtrak 7 seater we had as a school taxi before it. HTH

Tetley's Coaches had a 2.7 lwb 7 seater for staff transport, a bit tight inside with six fat bastard coach drivers, but could still make decent progress, proper old school 4x4, I liked it. Gaffer also used it to go on caravan holidays, yes a multi millionaire was so tight he used to go on caravan hols to Brid and Scarbro!

^^ Thats why he became a millionaire lol.
