Monsieur Bolleaux aux téléphone beige, s'il vous plaît. ATTENTION! Contient Solara!

That French one looks minty fresh! The white one is great for the money, probably better value if you want to drive it...

I haven't seen one of these on the road in years, my cousin had one as a first car back in the mid 80s (gold, brown interior, Y reg) that he only had for a year or two. I was way too young to drive but it seemed OK, can't remember anything about it's qualities other than it was comfortable.

I think he got rid as it was getting a bit frilly... He replaced it with a smaller Rover 213SE that he kept until there was more duct tape than metal for bodywork...

Doesn't any fugga here want the white one?

I'm fairly certain my dad had a beige one of these when I was little. I was only born in '88 so it must have been in the early 90s at least.

I've never been a fan of these but that white one is calling out to me... or at least to Hyacinth, who also wears 68 on her number plates!

I have decided it would be unwise to confirm or deny whether an approach has been made by myself.

KOLLEKTION THREAD NOW

Many moons ago, I looked at buying one of these, but in comparison to the 3 year old '82 Cavalier 1.6L saloon what I bought, it felt horribly cheaply made, the gear change clonked through the floor, the electric window winder things were like a tacked on afterthought.

I have no desire to drive another because I know why the Cav was a better seller, it was a better car.

Nice to see the pictures though but.

Having driven SambaS's Alpine last year, I think I could get on with one of these very nicely indeed. Bar rot.

This is it really. The 1600 Cavalier L was a cracking thing to drive and the last one I drove 15 years ago was really lively. It was also a 1300.  :-D

Solaras were junk along with the Horizon. A painter at work (Murray & Whittaker VW) back in 1986 had a V reg one that was absolutely fucked underneath. It had been a part ex and it was so rubbish that it's stint as a loaner was ended early.

My uncle Bob kept his A reg 1.6LS barely a year, and he bought it brand new on an A plate, was replaced by a Nissan Cherry!

Thankfully the world is a variable place and just enough people bought cars other than Sierras and Cavaliers to make things interesting.

I remember the TV advert for Talbots desperate Summertime Special sales event around 1983 ish. They were interviewing blokes in cardigans. "It's got a lot of room".

The theme tune was based on this sorry jingle:

The steaming turds in question:

Has Dollywobbler bought the white one yet?

I can see why people bought Mk2 Cavaliers. They were quick, refined and comfortable compared to 70s repmobiles, but they weren't nice to drive by any stretch of the imagination.

Only an early Alpine pre facelift would do it for me.

Me too. They were quite a sharp looking car for 1976 and the 1442 cc donk was quite lively. But then, as now, there were much better cars.

The silly seller has been away for weeks. Sadly, Mrs DW intercepted communications with the vendor. Apparently, I don't want it.

Did they ever sell these with the 1.9 XUD in the UK?

No, only the Horizon.

I don't think I have ever seen a Solara on W plate, X, yes. That must be the oldest UK car out there surely...
