The Moog
After the pumas little brake incident, I have decided to use the opportunity to upgrade to the biggest brakes I can fit under the standard wheels. These are the st150s which are 280mm disc rather than the 260mm standard. Every little helps They are going to be fitted with stainless hoses as well. A full brake set was sourced on eBay and ordered. I selected for it to be delivered to Argos but they rejected it due to being over 20kgs. Seller got a bit arsey so cancelled the order and found a pair of calipers online for £36. After checking the nips (free and easy) I decided to order a rebuild kit It comes with everything you need including pistons. I took advantage of NJGleeds generousity and used his airline to pop out the old pistons. Top tip kids is to keep your fingers out the way of the pistons if you do this - Sorry Neil! The old pistons were in pretty good nick but belt and braces meant to rebuild them anyway. The seals were a bit knackered From start to finish it took 30 mins to rebuild both calipers. Thought you might want a start to finish step by step Take one manky caliper with piston out Take off the dust seal. The seal has a metal band at the bottom. Mine had rusted a bit and stuck to the metal. I cleaned up the rim carefully using small wire brush then levered out the seal It was a bit stiffer than the fresh ones. I cleaned out the groove and put the new seal in, once I had dipped it in a bit of brake fluid Old Vs new piston Next up was piston in. I used a piece of wood and rubber mallet to push the piston in. It was lubed with brake fluid to make it easy. Then new dust seal fitted. This slots into the piston and then is pushed over the caliper rim. It can be a fiddly job, be careful not to damage the rubber Last job was to swap over the boots that sit over the sliders. This is push fit. And that's it. Took 30 mins and cost £39 for the kit delivered for everything including silicon grease. Next job is to get them on the car with new hoses and bleed the whole system. chodweaver, Cleon-Fonte, SiC and 12 others

Kiltox
Too ham fisted with the main seal. I really don't have the dexterity to do this kind of stuff so fuck knows why I tried! The Moog
twosmoke300
Satisfying job caliper overhauls - I do loads of hilux ones as there seems to be a choice of 3 calipers on the fleet I look after but all take the same rebuild kits so it's cheaper to keep them on the shelf . Rear handbrake calipers are a different kettle of fish tho - fiddly bastards The Moog and Kiltox

The Moog
Braving the overcast skies I thought I would get a few bits done Whipped the nips out of the calipers Ohh crusty .... Brmmmmmm ... Shiny(Camera had issue focusing on the pure shine)How many horsepower do these add? Got another few coats on the car. Removing the masked areas show that I was a bit hasty with a couple of areas. I needed to take the skim of filler back more before spraying. I was rushing to get paint on - where as I should have taken time. Will flat these back and then give it some coats. The Moog
A quick few hours work got the puma brakes swapped over Crispy brakes 7 Knockhill sessions on brand new brembo brake pads - eek. Probably good we didn't do the afternoon session. New brakes are from a fiesta st150. Biggest I can use without mods under the wheels I have. They are 20mm bigger discs Go faster redness Bigger pads as well. I went for brembo again although I think will upgrade to ebc Yellowstone next time. All fitted with goodridge braided hoses from demon tweeks. Rear hoses swapped as well although out up a fight. Ended up using my old vacuum cleaner tube to extend the spanner action All that is left is to bleed them all through and then bleed clutch just incase. egg, DeeJay, RayMK and 4 others

The Moog
No rain this morning so decided to do the Pumas brakes. If you haven't got one of these I can't recommend a pressure bleeder enough. First nipple didn't want to play ball. Rounded really easily. Luckily a 6 sided socket got it out. Whilst I cleaned it up I let it drain I then realised i had messed up. I had been playing with the rust on the arches but got rushed when it started to rain. Then I got distracted by the corsa arriving. I had just filled (badly) and primered it. Big mistake as it is porous and rust the ginger is breaking through again. Will get on to fix it another day. Brakes bled I now have a pedal harder than a piss head who thinks you have been staring at his bird. Sadly I paused at this moment to remember Jack. He has reached that age where he was not as strong as he used to be, age catches up all. The Moog
After viewing a car this morning the vel satis also decided to throw it's toys out the pram. The window dropped down and stopped working. Took the door card off and applied the shiters fix. I will look at getting a new window regulator. I also cleaned out the scuttles. What a fucking horrible job unless you have a spare child or tiny hands. These tubes are pushed into the side which clogs. Cleaned out and then water run through. Seems happy enough. I am sort of getting to the boredom point with the vel satis. Will have to ponder whether I want to change it or not. theshadow, Bucketeer, Asimo and 2 others

The Moog
Done as much as I can with the corsa and will get it up for sale once I have stuck a new MOT on it I definitely don't enjoy bodywork. The paint on it is very porous and quite thin. I have sorted most of the rust and the frankly horrible door but needs someone with more skills than me to blend it all in. Pictures definitely flatter it, ideally it could do with a respray to make it perfect. oldcars, Cavcraft, jumpingjehovahs and 1 other

The Moog
Spent the glorious sunshine of an Accrington morning tracking down the squeaky brakes. The wheels weren't getting hot so wasn't a sticking caliper. I have put 600 miles on them since the rebuild and whilst the pedal is firm and the wheels spin it had an increasing squeak from drivers side wheel. Up and off Caliper of and check the gap with the disc. I had a feeling it had warped as was Delphi discs. No score marks were evident and the gap looked fine. And then I found the little mousey mousey. Slightly hard to see but the ball joint protection shield was rubbing on the disc. It wouldn't bend back so a quick tickle with my new favourite toy Silence is restored. Corsa currently in for MOT before sale.
