Bloody Big Bad Benz is the Bloody Biggest Piece of Tosh

With that little sub-protrusion they look like they're meant to be flatter, but they've pulled forwards and upwards when the old stereo was removed.

Anyway. Dremeltime.

It still doesn't fucking fit with the protrusions removed, what the fuck.

Too narrow.

e: that entire thing with the protrusions on isn't part of the original radio, is it? It doesn't feel like it comes out.

Which way doesn't the cage fit- top to bottom or width?

How much was your mechless Bluetooth head unit? I've broken approx three thousand 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio jacks and I'm loath to keep buying them.

£50 off eBay, second hand but only a few months old. It's a Pioneer MVH-350BT and quite good. I won't go back to one without Bluetooth. It's great to be able to stream music, do phone calls and texts without even taking the phone out of my coat pocket.

It should fit- it's a standard size. It should be very tight mind. Opening looks ok.

My Bluetooth and dab with iPod control was £80 second hand.

Conrad, I think you need to take the original retainer cage out. Shoving a cage within a cage is never going to work.

Just hammer a smaller...wait, never mind.

Get the Shitemerc by hook or by crook to Shitefest,ánd we will set fire to it and dance ritualistically around the flames.  It'll be like the Wicker Man, except more naked.

Drama over, it's in. I had to file away a tiny tiny bit of the enclosure. No, I don't know why the hole was DIN -0.3mm on this one specific car. I also installed rear speakers, which necessitated removing the rear seats and spending an hour trying to thread the speaker wire through the conduit under the seats. Sounds great though!

BONUS: I found 40p under the rear seat, plus the centre seat lap belt. I didn't know it had one! There was also a load of broken glass fragments in there. I'm fairly sure this car was broken into at some point.

Perhaps someone was trying to break out?

More likely someone punched one of the windows out of frustration while trying to thread wire through a conduit.

No Shizzle mine has a load of broken glass under the rear seat too!

Did you remove yours?

I dealt with my broken glass by putting the seat back and ignoring it

It rattles like a candelabra when i go over bumps  But at least I know what it is now

Of course I just put the seat back. But not before risking deep lacerations digging through it for those 20p coins.

W126's must be slightly different, my broken glass is stored under the fuse box in the engine bay. I have the blue rat poison under the rear seat.

Noise diagnosis plz:

Only when coasting, never when on throttle, nothing appears to be loose underneath. Not all the time. Not engine.

Brakes?. Handbrake pads rattling? Mine did this.

Posted

Hmm, handbrake pads. I like that idea!

Kinda hoping it's not a knackered driveshaft CV joint. Will have to get the tail in the air tomorrow.

Front or back?

If it's handbrake pads, this car is definitely odd - h/brake should be shoes. If it stops clicking when you apply the (foot) brake, that's most likely the source. Are the front wheel bearings adjusted properly?

They have a funny anti rattle Spring ( well funny to someone used to 2cv type handbrakes). The repair kit is about a tenner and on mine the new springs were about 1cm longer than the old ones.

Applying the brakes makes no difference to the noise (it changes with road speed though).

Sounds like it's coming from underneath but not the front.

I'd go with handbrake springs. But what do I know! All sorts of mechanical black arts back there- driveshaft, diff, multi link suspension.

Definitely sounds like rubbing, not an exhaust baffle or heat shield rattling.
