This looks like a good crack, I'd be up for joining in if you guys do it again later in the year when I've something interesting on the road...

Just come in the BX if nothing older is working Scott! It'll be good to see you at a future meet.

You know you've made it in life when a Pikey calls your car shit!

Especially when they're only like 9 years old...

I did notice three of the little Darlings make a bee line for the Porsche and was nervous for you!

Actually there they are slagging off the dolly! Yeah boys, daddy's Shogun running on red is much better...

I done a DVLA check on the Shogun that towed the horsebox in, no wonder they scarppered quickly.

Does Pete M still use Brick Top as his Avatar? Might be handy next time

Strange geezer with a model car on the roof of his Audi in the background...

Haha! It's not looking too great, we noticed that after a while the car started ticking over slowly and it's leaking oil from the gasket onto the clutch, I spoke to my dad about it and he says its probably losing compression hence the slow tick over. :(

On the plus side it's meant to be pretty easy to change, I just need to find a Payen head set for it now.

I shall pretend here that my digital camera broke and I had to use a 110 Instamatic that the previous owner left in the glovebox of my Laurel:

Others drove there via some kind of orbital motor-highway I believe they call the M25? I went the more scenic route:

Rover 75s, and particularly Tourers, did seem to be a recurring theme through the day. There was a healthy number of them at the toyfair I stopped at on the way down, plenty of Volvo estates too. I saw several decaying examples on a driveway not far from the Halfway House.

One or two other oldies around - saw a SAAB 99 heading the opposite way on the A140 in Suffolk on the way there and back, and also caught a glimpse of a yellow Mk2 Cavalier estate on the A14. Looked a bit modified, almost SRi-like - does that ring a bell with anyone?

I feel rather sorry for the young-ish couple in the above S-Reg Maxi who I chanced upon on the A12, naturally assumed the driver was one of our resident BL apologists and latched onto his bumper to convoy it to the Halfway House.

They then peeled off onto the Brentwood turn-off and looked absolutely mortified as I stared at them.

They're probably still freaked out by the episode.

If anybody is interested I've posted about this on Hooniverse so that Johnny Forinner can read about it.

I love that feature Chris! Very well written. :)

That yellow Cavalier you saw Nigel is a popular spot around the town, it's his daily driver.

By the way Chris is your free on Sunday we are having one of our East Coast Retros car meets at the Bunglow Diner in Marks Tey from 10.30am, we should have over 30 cars turn up of all sorts.

Luckily 1300/1500 Dolly head gaskets are a piece of piss to do (once you get the correct one). There are two types of gasket, one for recessed and non-recessed heads.

It was very satisfying cleaning up the piston crowns and valves, etc. I did that on my Tolly about 5 years ago and it is still running happily now.

Cool! I actually enjoyed doing mine although I had never, ever done anything like that before. I even cleaned out the water pump casing with a drill and wire brush and painted. Very satisfying.

Piccies as you do it please )

Yo Trig here's pix of the one I was telling you about that I saw at the Tain show in June:

It's been too long since we last had a London/Essex 'shiters meet. How are we all fixed for a Little Chef on Sunday 10th April?

Pencil me in for now, if I can make it I'll bring the Audi. You leave the pikeys behind thought this time.

I'm in but could suggest alternative nearby venues which show my "manor" in a more positive light!

There is a lovely pub called The Greyhound about two miles away, or the Green Man in Herongate (mile up the road) is nice too. Billy Murray from The Bill and most low budget gangster movies drinks there a lot for "OMG has been celeb pics". Parking might be limited though

I'll be in Iceland, driving a hired Corsa.

Anybody for a Reykjavik meet?
