Thank you Angrydicky and andrew e....unfortunately things haven't worked out too well this morning and now it looks like I won't have time to get over there & back in time for the family stuff I've promised to do, so I'll have to bail. Damn. May the shite be kwality and the Little Chef not too terrible...

I'm here now! I'm parked outside the main pub because the car park is quite busy down the little chef end. At the moment, I've got a row of spaces free.

Posted

Unexpectedly, I'm on my way. I'll be in the A4 in case anybody runs out of toner or copier paper.

Good to see the fellow 'shitters, I will let them post their better photos of the meet, which had some exciting moments..... but in the meantime have this post 'Traveller Grand Prix' shot once the pony & traps had been moved on.....

Actually one trap in shot!

Cheers for arranging Dicky - thought the massive Travelller invasion half way through was a nice touch and I am surprised none of us ended up with a Dag.

Anyhow, here are some piccies from the morning - I left just as Mr Laurel arrived so apologies for not getting any of the lovely Nissan!

Well that was a good day, aside from the invasion of pikeys but the police soon moved them on.

I was so busy talking I only managed a few pics, but there will be loads more to follow later. Some really nice cars turned up. Well organised Dicky, hope there will be another one soon. I much enjoyed having a ride in the Laurel !!!

Couple more I missed - have to say I was quite smitten with the Marina - I mean just look at that dash, it's a minimalist work of art

Very impressed with Outlaws ex Stripped Fred Alfa, a lot of weapon for very little bunce. Triggers lovely Triumph and Dickys VX were joys to behold, Primrose looked as good as always and Inconsistents Porsche is getting gradually more consistent potentially leading to a required name change in the near future!

And finally one for the SVM - one of you will probably pick this up at auction for £300 in fifteen years! Special bonus points to Trigger for pulling "Friend" pose

Haha! Sorry if there was a few of you I didn't speak too, I didn't hear what your username was and felt silly asking! And even bigger apologies to Outlaw for calling him Mick all day instead of Bob! What a knobber!

The Dolomite made it there and without fault and was surprisingly refined even! I'll post up some proper photos in a bit.

Had a good day out, with some nice cars and a good bunch of people as always at these meetings.  Lovely drive back at 70mph following the Dolomite, it really holds its own in todays traffic, nearly 40 years after it was built.

I got home and had to parallel park the Sierra in a tight space on a hill, I stalled it and it wouldn't restart (known starter motor problem), it was half out into the path of the traffic.  Couldn't wait for it to cool down, so ended up putting a jump pack on it and it started.

Pictures of the meet to follow, not the disgraced Sierra, that's got to spend the night facing the back end of a Vauxhall Combo van as punishment for me not fixing it when it first showed the symptoms five years ago.

Well, that was rather nice, wasn't it? Also probably the only time I've been in a Little Chef since puberty.

Very pleasant putting more names to faces.

Thanks, chaps, for making this happen.

Up with this kind of thing.

Here's a few photos that i took, much the same as others I'd imagine.

I got there a bit early after overestimating how long it would take to get there, thankfully Dicky was already there.

My mate (Cortinaboy on here) bought his Marina that's been of the road 30 years along on its first long drive for at least 40 years, it made it there and back home without fault.

There was a lot of love for RobT's budget Mondeo.

And then the pikeys came after closing the A127 for a horse race, to say we all got a bit worried was a understatement!

Thankfully the SVM was on hand to sort things out!

We had a bit of a play in each others cars and i must say i really enjoed Dickys 2300S, It was one of those rare occasions that sitting in the rear was even nicer than sitting in the front!

Thanks Angrydicky for making this happen and a pleasure to meet you and all the other shiters. An interesting meet, especially when the pikeys and their horses arrived. We should do it again,by which time I should have a shite motor!

Yes, an excellent day out. I had a successful visit to the toyfair en-route and drove through Brentwood for the full TOWIE experience, but sadly missed out on the pony trap racing action. The Laurel made it there and back despite not having been used or even started for 3-4 months (though I did have to clean some rather unattractive mould off the steering wheel yesterday.....). Was glad I made the effort to take it when I could park it in that '70s line-up and I very much enjoyed my drives in the Triumph and Vauxhall :-)

Good to put some more faces to names, though as ever with something like this I realise I didn't speak to half the people or get photos of all the cars I wanted to.

A few pic's to come, at some point.

This was a great meet, a brilliant turnout as well with a really eclectic range of cars!

Good to see RobT, Trigger, Outlaw118, Inconsistant and EssDeeWon again. Great to meet Parky, RoadworkUK, Spottedlaurel, Jerzy Woking, Cortinaboy, Oldford, Vantman and Seth. Apologies to Andrew E and Joey Spud who I didn't get to speak to. I've probably forgotten someone, don't take it personally because I'm terrible with remembering names!

Also, thanks to Trigger, Spottedlaurel and RobT for letting me drive their cars!

I was surprisingly taken by Rob's MK1 Mondeo Ghia, considering as we all know car manufacture stopped in 1986.

The Dolomite felt ridiculously revvy and nippy after the sedate and torquey Victor, I bet it really flies!

The Laurel was just a brilliant all-rounder, it was quiet, comfortable, well equipped and the controls were light and precise. It felt a lot more modern than it was, with power steering, electric windows and a five speed gearbox! I really enjoyed my drive in it.

I think the venue was pretty good really, and I'd be happy to organise another meet there at some point. The Little Chef grub was decent - I had no complaints! Fortunately the travellers all headed off after 10 minutes or so, as it was quite worrying with all their cars and trucks blocking our cars in!

Look forward to the next one! :)

Richard.

Great to meet you all, faces old and new. The Little Chef with added traveller drama provided a suitably grim location for a shite meet.

The Escort was for sale apparently, as the old boy's mate asked if I was interested. I said I've got enough old tat to deal with thanks!

Further to my single photo above (which I promise was taken in 1982), top work everyone. Nice to chat.  Perhaps next time we can organise a grandstand somewhere along the A127 so we can actually watch the racing?

Posted

I echo what everyone said; had a mate meet me at the the pub - he thought it was a great turnout. Somehow I never chatted to Angry Dicky, so sorry chap! That Jaguar belonged to a chap going shooting, I thought he was a 'shitter - he thought I was mental! He did like the cars though.

I did crack up when the travellers kids called the motors (Dolomite & Victor) shite!

The "travellers" Rav-4 sounded a bit tasty though - sounded like it had a formula ford engine in it!

That Travellers Rav4 left via the ditch! Dodgy as hell! You know you've made it in life when a Pikey calls your car shit!

Wasn't that on account of it having no exhaust? :D

I forgot to say, thanks to Dicky for letting me drive his Victor, it is FAB. Such a lovely soft ride and looks great, a classy motor.

Best carpet of the day went to Trig's Dolly. I couldn't stop stroking it when riding as passenger!

That ^^^ is absolutely fantastic. Made better by the fact that a) the cars are all typical 1980 car park fodder and b ) have no nasty modern additions on them. Love it!
