Give me some ideas for a daily driver

They're not that modern - introduced in 1995.

You don't fancy the idea of a Maxi diesel, by any chance?

Tis true. Not a fan of BL's 70's output!

Grammar corrected. ;) Seriously, spheres are no more trouble than an oil filter (they just occasionally seize in place). Far easier to change than coil springs and dampers. I'd not seriously suggest one though because FRENCH ELECTRICS.

No, I'd recommend a Volvo 850TDI instead.

Yeah, I'm usually the grammar police (less and fewer gets my goat) another 850 vote noted

I can tick everything but the safety* box with anything I might suggest.

Little Red Corvette?

You're probably not going to be able to tick all of the boxes. What about getting a Civic or Corolla for daily duties and then some shite for fun?

Posted

Omega. Cheap and easy to look after.

Your biggest issue is finding a good one.

On street parking in the same road as a school. I've decided that I can only really run one (at least in term time!)

Scorpio and Omega (agree, not often seen) noted - big beasts though.

oh boggle eyed granada scorpio there is an idea.

or an omega, if you can find one that hasn't been driven into the ground or that's rotten, and they are out there somewhere....

Redcar Car Sales by JohnK has a very tidy, rust free, well maintained Omega MV6 which will likely be hitting the market soon.

It won't be as cheap as that 405 but it will be sub 1k.

Meets all requirements.

1.6 16V (optional twinport)

105 BHP?

Free Reving Petrol

Cheap parts

Easy to repair

Under a £1000 for the best available (mine was £950 with 33K on clock)

Not too uncomfortable

Easy to park

Not TOO small

Can be ragged on long journeys (I commute 110 Miles in mine each way)

Air Con (if you pick the right spec)

ABS (Ditto - the red one doesn't have it and I think it's a good thing to have)

Volvo 240, good old tanks and wear their mileage well.

Bmw e34 shape 5 series, something like a 525i se would be a great box ticker, don't expect the aircon to still work though.

I'm just suggesting stuff i want myself to be fair though..........

Cavcraft vectra?

Cavalier Mk3

Having owned 4xMk2 cavaliers, and 1xMk3 Cavalier and 3xMk3 Astras, and now with 2xMk4 astras in the family, I have to say that when driving the mk4 astra you can almost feel the mk3 cavalier in the design.

if you are prepared to consider a cavalier then why not a vectra B & C?

they would not be my choice, but they are well cheap, and some shitters seem to love theirs, though other folks hate them with a vengeance.

infact Billy will no doubt have one or more in stock as i type this.

Yep, good idea. I'd prefer a 123 if I could find a late one with air con.

Not in your price bracket really though.

I want to recommend an e34 but I didn't really like mine and OMG that Scorpio is lovely.

Astra G and Vectra added to the long list....!

POD - Have had an Astra mk4 1.6 8v, and 1.4 16v - so why not try the full set!

Posted

Mk1 megane 1.9 turbo diesel 55mpgs all day long. Let the flames begin☺

BMW E34 5 series??

I'm seriously considering one as my next daily!

Or maybe a 7 series of the same vintage?/

I'm lining myself up for a proper pasting here... But I've got a mk3 G##f Gti and its great. 37 mpg at 70ish on a motorway, cheap easily available parts and because they're relatively unloved they're cheap...

Hit me with it, I'm ready!

XJ6 or an XJ8 though i don't recall if fuel consumption was an issue or not in this thread.

for a reason, they are shit.

3 votes for the e34, but just can't imagine owning a Beemer!

I don't have to imagine, I can remember.  Which is why it won't happen again!

It's not a fusion but any thoughts on the c-max? Mines a 2.0 turbot diseasel. All the toys:cruise/air/leather/shit nav/heated seats- even DVDs screen in the back. Six speed box means 50 mpg at 65. On an 04 plate and cost me less than a grand (just!).
